Job Summary
General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA‑EMS) is looking for a Radar Systems Engineer - Resource Management Lead to help define how our next‑generation radars think. In this role, you will lead the architecture and design of radar resource management and scheduling for advanced, multifunction radar systems. You will shape how the radar allocates time, energy, beams, and waveforms across search, track, surveillance, and special modes – including in heavily contested environments.
This is a high‑impact, system‑level role ideal for someone who enjoys combining radar physics with advanced logic and optimization concepts. Autonomy and machine-learning enabled decision making (e.g., cognitive radar, queuing theory, RL/ML) are valuable but not required.
You will be a key member of the Radar Technologies department and report to the Senior Manager of Architecture and Systems Engineering. This role will work under the direction of the Radar Technical Lead and the Senior Manager of Architecture and Systems Engineering. It is responsible for architecture and design within the radar resource management and scheduling domain and will collaborate with other subsystem leads (DSP, Digital Beamforming, Tracking, Command & Control, Calibration) to define and realize the overall radar system design.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:- Lead the architecture and system‑level design of radar resource management (RRM) and scheduling for advanced radar systems.
- Develop radar schedulers that allocate radar resources (time, energy, beams, waveforms, apertures) across competing tasks and missions in real time.
- Define tasking concepts and scheduling strategies for search, track, surveillance, and special modes, including multi‑function and multi‑mission operations.
- Design search volumes, search fences, and waveform tables that coordinate search, track, and special modes under resource constraints.
- Perform system analysis and trades to evaluate resource management and scheduling approaches under varying mission scenarios, constraints, and environmental conditions.
- Develop algorithms, models, and simulations (primarily in MATLAB) to assess performance of RRM and scheduler designs, including scenario‑based simulations and Monte Carlo analyses.
- Define and decompose system and subsystem requirements for RRM, scheduling, and associated control functions, including interfaces to DSP, tracking, digital beamforming, and command & control.
- Collaborate closely with stakeholders from other teams including:
- DSP to ensure scheduler designs respect waveform, processing, and latency constraints.
- Tracking to support track‑based scheduling, track maintenance, and track‑while‑scan concepts.
- Digital Beamforming to coordinate beam/time allocation, multi‑beam operations.
- Command & Control / Mission Capabilities to define operator controls, modes, search fence execution, and mission‑level behaviors.
- Support integration and test planning for RRM and scheduler functions, including lab, HWIL (hardware‑in‑the‑loop), and field test events.
- Analyze data from simulations, lab tests, and field tests to evaluate scheduler performance, troubleshoot issues, and develop design updates.
- Prepare and present technical material at internal and external technical reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, etc.) and customer meetings.

Job Qualifications
- Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; fifteen or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, thirteen or more years of experience with a masters degree, or ten or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
- Strong background in systems engineering and radar engineering, with demonstrated ability to lead complex technical efforts and coordinate across disciplines.
- Experience in radar systems with emphasis in one or more of the following (we do not expect all of them):
- Radar resource management and task scheduling
- Multifunction or multi-mission radar operations
- Mode management and waveform/beam scheduling
- Time–energy management for search, track, and special radar functions
- Mission management or autonomy for sensing systems (e.g., cognitive radar, adaptive tasking, decision theoretic control)
- Experience developing and analyzing radar algorithms, models, and simulations using MATLAB. Experience with additional tools such as Python or C/C++ is a plus.
- Familiarity with key radar subsystems and functions, such as:
- Digital signal processing and detection
- Tracking and track‑while‑scan architectures
- Digital beamforming and multi‑beam operations
- Command and control / mission management
- Calibration and performance verification
- Ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout a fast‑paced, R&D environment.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with internal teams, customers, and government representatives.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
Even Better If You Have- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing radar task schedulers or resource managers for airborne, ground‑based, naval, or space‑based radar systems.
- Experience designing search volumes, search fences, and waveform tables and validating them through system‑level simulations or field testing.
- Experience developing scenario‑based system‑level simulations (IQ‑based and/or detection‑based) to evaluate mission performance and resource management concepts.
- Experience with multi‑function radar or systems that coordinate search, track, and special modes under resource constraints.
- Familiarity with Electronic Protection (EP) / Electronic Warfare (EW) techniques and their impact on scheduling and resource management.
- Experience with autonomy, optimization, or decision-making algorithms is a plus, such as:
- Queuing theory, operations research, or control theory
- Reinforcement learning or other ML based decision policies
- Heuristic or rule-based schedulers for complex, real time systems
- Experience with development tools including Confluence, Jira, and Git.
- Previous experience working with the Department of Defense.
