General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS' expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Thermal Analyst in Rancho Bernardo, CA.   The ideal candidate would have a strong background in thermal control systems for optical payloads and satellites.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides thermal analysis for space payloads and orbital satellite systems.
  • Provides practical solutions and insight to problems related to thermal control systems. 
  • Documents findings and communicates reports and technical presentations at engineering meetings and participates in program reviews.
  • Provides technical communication within the company management and may represent the company as a technical contact to customers.
  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Works in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree, seven or more years of experience with a Master’s degree, or four or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Experience with thermal analysis and software tools such as Thermal Desktop.
  • Experience with thermal analysis of satellites/payloads and related materials including interface resistances, coatings, radiators and solar panels.
  • Understanding of orbit mechanics and the impact of different orbits on satellite thermal design.
  • Experience with TVAC and thermal balance testing, instrumentation, model tuning, test plans and procedures.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate engineering issues, solutions, and analysis results verbally to audiences with varying technical depth and experience.
  • Must be able to effectively document and present designs, analysis and/or test results in the form of briefing packages, drawings, documents and reports.
  • Must be able to understand and apply new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required.
