Job Summary

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS' expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

 At GA-EMS – Optical Sensor Systems, we design, build, and test advanced electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) space payload that power next-generation remote-sensing systems. You’ll join a multidisciplinary team tackling technically challenging problems in a collaborative, hands-on environment.. The Embedded Software Engineer will work closely with Software and Electrical Engineering teams on the embedded software team in Acton, MA. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Design, implement and verify embedded software running on a Xilinx SoC platform.
  • System debug, including hardware, software, firmware, and communications protocol.
  • Writing software to support automated verification of the software running on hardware
  • May be required to make technical presentations to project staff and customers.
  • Provide direction to design staff or technicians.
  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, seven or more years of experience with a masters degree, or four or more years with a PhD.  May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • High-level programming languages
    • C
    • C++
    • Python
  • Embedded Linux operating system experience with Linux device driver programming
  • Experience with developing for and debugging on Xilinx SoC platforms
  • Experience with Xilinx tools desirable
  • Experience with EOIR systems preferred
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills with software and hardware
  • Good communication, computer, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other professionals, to produce appropriate documentation, and to present results to a limited internal audience.
  • Must be able to work both independently and on a team.
  • A DoD Security Clearance is desired with the ability to obtain a clearance required
