Summary:
The AS9100/ISO9001/FAA Part 145 Quality Engineer (QE) will work with quality management to review, improve, and verify compliance of the quality management system and other governing requirements. This QE will plan, schedule, and perform quality system audits as well as measure and analyze audits and QMS data to lead continuous improvement initiatives. In addition, he/she will be involved for all external customer audits and regulatory bodies related to Quality Management System.
AS9100 QE will utilize corrective and preventive action process to correct compliance nonconformances and drive improvement of QMS supporting documentations.
Essential functions and Responsibilities
- Executes AS9100/FAA Compliance Activities via internal audits.
- Assist with external (AS9100, NADCAP, FAA and DCMA (US Gov.)) audits.
- Participate in customer audits and source inspections.
- Provide management system training and guidance to Valcor employees to build, improve, and implement policies/procedures and systems that meet our business objectives and assure compliance to governing requirements.
- Create and update QMS supporting documentation such as Quality Manual, Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions.
- Utilize corrective and preventive action process to correct compliance nonconformances (internal/external) and drive improvement of the management system.
- Be data driven to assess processes, take measurements, and interpret data to facilitate continuous improvement in manufacturing operations.
- Perform root cause analysis (8D,5 Whys) of identified manufacturing issues and identify appropriate corrective and preventive action.
- Participate in cross-functional teams in the investigation and elimination of causes of quality problems and verify effectiveness on corrective actions (Corrective Action Board).
- Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Inspection on procedural problems involving design, methods, tooling, costs and other areas involved in control of product quality.
- Investigate customer complaints on product quality and work closely with customer’s representatives to resolve problems.
- Ensure that the company’s products conform to all specifications and customer requirements.
- Facilitate the use of LEAN/ Six Sigma, and other quality tools for quality and process improvement.
- Establish and provide written procedures for quality assurance activities as related to product manufactured.
- Participate in review and disposition of nonconforming materials.
- Evaluate, develop and maintain activities required to audit quality effectiveness, including the planning and execution of programs of audits; procedure audits; quality-systems audits, and product audits.
Education and Skills Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in quality engineering, or other engineering discipline (prefer Mechanical Engineering).
- 5 years’ experience implementing management systems and auditing to AS9100/ISO9001 Quality Management Systems standards.
- 5 years’ experience in various phases of Quality Assurance or equivalent in Aerospace, Defense, FAA or Nuclear Power generation environments.
- Must have AS9100 Internal Auditor Certification.
- Must be able to write Quality Management System supporting procedures and work instructions.
- Knowledge of 14 CFR Part 21 and 145 is a plus.
- Must be mobile, capable of communicating with plant personnel at all levels.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; composing written reports and other communications.
- Superior analytical skills, capable of using current computer analysis tools (Microsoft Office, Outlook plus others applicable programs).
- Ability to work independently with a strong work ethic, is innovative, detail oriented, possesses initiative.
- Knowledge of ETQ Reliance Quality Management Software is a plus.
