General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS' expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

We have an exciting opportunity for Component Engineer to join our Component Engineering Group located in Rancho Bernardo, CA, reporting directly to the Component Engineering Manager. This role will have accountability for Component approval and BOM analysis.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform part screening, material evaluating and review manufacturing processes of component to ensure maximum reliability & cost efficiency.
  • Sourcing electrical, electronic and electromechanical components for existing and new products, packages, and electronic subassemblies
  • Finding replacements for obsolete electrical components and updating current designs
  • Use of Bill of Material (BOM) obsolescence analysis tools
  • Researching, developing, designing, or selecting components for product improvements
  • Providing electrical and mechanical engineering support
  • Understanding/interpreting existing electrical and general engineering documentation
  • Cooperating with vendors/manufacturing team to find optimum Design for Manufacturing solutions
  • Understanding DMSMS program and implementing the pro-active concert.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and two or more years of engineering experience with a bachelor’s degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Familiarity and experience with sourcing issues for electrical, electronic and electromechanical components
  • Experience with BOM obsolescence analysis tools
  • Complete understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts
  • Strong communication, computer, documentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience in a hardware manufacturing environment, supporting, and sustaining manufacturing engineering 
  • Must be customer focused and able to work on a self-initiated basis or in a team environment and able to work extended hours and travel as required.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance at or above the Secret level is required.
