General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

We have an exciting opportunity located in Poway, CA for an experienced Project Engineer within our MQ-9A Department of Homeland Security (DHS) engineering team, providing systems engineering and technical management of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • With supervision and guidance, a candidate shall:
    • Become a prime point of contact between the company and the customer for all technical matters.
  • Develop an in-depth technical understanding of the entire aircraft and ground control system, which includes flight software, fuel, electrical and avionics systems, as well as datalink systems for command and control.
  • Develop detailed system requirements that will be the foundation for new or improved UAS capabilities.
  • Develop program plans, estimates, and schedules.
  • Lead all necessary engineering design reviews, e.g. SRR, PDR, CDR.
  • Provide chief technical directions to all other engineering groups within GA-ASI, ensuring company alignment of system requirements, design, and deliverables to meet customer requirements.
  • Requires a very hands-on approach to engineering system design, test, verification & validation utilizing an UAS-representative integration lab.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts with on-site personnel to resolve technical issues in the field. 
  • Will require travel to field sites to provide on-site engineering expertise as required.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a bachelors or masters degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and two or more years of engineering experience with a bachelors degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Must have a general understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theory with technical experience demonstrating the application of those concepts while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment and organize work assignments to meet established timetables.
  • Good communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work extended hours as required.
  • An EIT (Engineer in Training) certificate is desirable.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is required.
