Job Overview:

Federal Signal has an immediate opening for an Electrical Test Engineer based at our University Park, Illinois facility. This position will be responsible for the full software development life-cycle from design requirements through production release for automated test fixtures used in production.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Create software applications for test solutions that support product manufacturing including automated testing.
  • Perform product evaluations to determine if engineering standards are met via testing methods.
  • Integrate testing system software and hardware platforms as needed.
  • Design, configure, and manufacture customized ATE (automated test equipment) systems and Test Program Set development.
  • Responsible for full software development life-cycle from requirements thru production release.
  • Provide design guidance and instructions on design principles to test technicians for fixtures developed.
  • Provide engineering support to resolve product testing issues as it relates to software and hardware concerning fixtures.
  • Produce and present architectural and development guidelines and best practices as it relates to software.
  • Flexibility to perform other duties and assignments as required.
  • May include travel to vendors and/or trade shows.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in technology related field or equivalent from an accredited university.
  • 0-3 years of previous experience in a similar role required.
  • Development experience using National Instruments LabVIEW software Version 2014 and higher a plus.
  • Development experience using National Instruments hardware such as USB DAQ modules including GPIB and serial interfaces.
  • Knowledge of data communications (RS232, RS485, I2C, CAN Bus, LIN, TCP/IP, UDP) preferred
  • Proficient with standard test equipment such as digital multimeter, power supplies, oscilloscope, sound level meter, function generator, DIO...
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to read detailed schematics required
  • Ability to use Python, .NET, C++, or related software is a plus
