Job Title

Engineer I – Ceramic CNC New Product Development

Responsible for foundational aspects of the design, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes, tooling, and production methods through the application of accepted engineering principles and techniques. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys working with both engineering design and CNC machinery and wants to see products progress from concept and prototype through production. The engineer will work closely with experienced engineers, machinists, and manufacturing personnel to develop ceramic parts, establish machining processes, troubleshoot problems, and improve product quality and manufacturability. This is a practical role combining engineering, CNC machining, materials, experimentation, and problem-solving.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Support the design and development of new ceramic components and assemblies.
  • Translate engineering drawings and CAD models into practical CNC machining processes.
  • Program, set up, and operate CNC equipment used to machine ceramic materials.
  • Develop and optimize cutting parameters, tooling, fixturing, and machining strategies.
  • Build and evaluate prototypes and first-article parts.
  • Perform hands-on testing, dimensional inspection, and process evaluations.
  • Troubleshoot machining, dimensional, surface-finish, and material-related issues.
  • Work directly with machinists and manufacturing personnel to improve processes and part quality.
  • Assist with selection and evaluation of diamond tooling, fixtures, coolants, and other machining consumables.
  • Use engineering drawings, GD&T, CAD models, and inspection equipment to verify requirements.
  • Document development work, test results, machining parameters, and process improvements.
  • Assist in developing manufacturing processes and work instructions for new products.
  • Participate in root-cause investigations and identify opportunities to improve quality, yield, cycle time, and tooling life.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related engineering field and/or 4 years of experience in similar discipline.

Experience:

  • 0-4 Years

Functional/Technical Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to work with machinery and tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and CAD models.
  • Basic understanding of CNC machining and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
    Preferred
  • Internship, co-op, laboratory, or project experience involving CNC machining or manufacturing.
  • Experience with CNC mills, lathes, or machining centers.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks, Mastercam, or similar.
  • Familiarity with GD&T and dimensional inspection equipment.
  • Experience working with ceramics, glass, composites, carbide, graphite, or other brittle/hard materials.
  • Experience with diamond tooling or abrasive machining.
  • Exposure to statistical process control, DOE, or other manufacturing/process-development methods.
