General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS' expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Engineer to join our Forensics Products and High-G Components engineering design departments located in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Under engineering management and direction, this position is responsible for assembly of Specialized Imaging System (SIS) products and applying innovative approaches to help resolve mechanical, electrical and software design problems for imaging systems, projectiles, satellites, missiles, and/or acoustic sensor subsystems with specific focus on hardware prototyping, assembly, and testing.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Primarily responsible for the assembly and testing of Specialized Imaging System (SIS) products.
- Works under limited supervision to provide technical support to senior engineers on a variety of technical tasks.
- Gathers, maintains, formats, and compiles technical data such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes.
- Modifies and produces engineering documentation, reports, and drawings such as flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics.
- Serves as an interface between engineering, the on-site machine shop, and Mastercam programming for Computer Numerical Control (CNC) equipment.
- Serves as the primary operator for on-site air cannon test equipment.
- Develops and analyzes a variety of documentation and reports as required.
- Conducts tests and records data to support engineering evaluations and analyses.
- Contributes as part of a team that designs, prototypes, builds, and tests low-rate production assemblies.
- Maintains a productive and safe working environment in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
- Observes all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of sensitive information.

Detailed Responsibilities:- Assembles Specialized Imaging System products according to established Manufacturing Work Instructions (MWIs).
- Operates on-site air cannon test equipment in accordance with local test and safety procedures.
- Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team on the design, analysis, documentation, and prototyping of aerospace and/or commercial electronic subsystems.
- Performs design trade studies and analysis to balance performance, cost, and schedule.
- Supports assembly of prototype and pre‑production hardware, including troubleshooting/failure analysis, test procedure development, and testing.
- Documents test and verification activities at the system and/or subsystem level.
- Participates in reviews and provides technical analysis and commentary on system specifications, schematics, and verification phases of development.
- Consults with engineers and program teams on sustaining engineering activities to ensure continuity of assembly/testing and customer commitments.

Job Qualifications
- Typically requires a bachelors degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
- Ability to grasp new concepts quickly and work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to read, interpret, and create blueprints, drawings, and other engineering documentation.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to accurately document, report, and assess situations and make sound judgments.
- Good working knowledge of computer operations and applications pertinent to the field.
- Must be customer-focused and able to work on a self-initiated basis or in a team environment, with the ability to work extended hours and travel as required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance is required
Preferred Qualifications:- Android operating systems and software development.
- Microcontrollers (such as Raspberry Pi, ESP32, and/or Arduino).
- Stepper motors, robotic actuators, and electromechanical assemblies.
- Engineering and design tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Mastercam, Altium, OrCAD, and MATLAB.
- Electronic test equipment such as signal generators, frequency counters, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, multimeters, in circuit emulators, and programmers.
