The BAE Systems site in York, Pennsylvania is seeking a Weld/Fabrication Quality Engineer/Tech – Senior in support of Combat Mission Systems’ Paladin Program. This is a 1st shift position. In this role, the Quality Engineer develops, modifies, applies, and maintains quality evaluation and control systems and protocols in a heavy manufacturing environment. The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring Fabrication requirements are met for current and future contract years.
- Provide floor-level quality support for Main Line Weld operations, ensuring adherence to engineering requirements and approved processes
- Lead and facilitate root cause and corrective action (RCCA) investigations using structured methodologies (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, A3)
- Review and interpret technical data packages (TDPs) including drawings, specifications, and work instructions to ensure compliance
- Support nonconformance management process, including documentation, containment, and participation in MRB activities
- Interface with government representatives (e.g., DCMA) and customers during audits, source inspections, and product acceptance activities
- Drive and maintain Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) for Main Line Weld processes; identify high-risk failure modes and implement mitigation strategies
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 quality management system requirements
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing defects, improving first-pass yield, and supporting on-time delivery (OTD)
- Execute Layered Process Audits (LPA) across Main Line Weld operations to verify adherence to standard work, control plans, and process requirements
- Identify process gaps through LPA execution and drive timely corrective actions, ensuring sustained compliance and process discipline
- Provide guidance on inspection methods and acceptance criteria
- Support First Article Inspections (FAI) and validation of manufacturing processes
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to resolve issues related to weld operations
- Assist in development and refinement of standard work, inspection plans, and quality procedures
Required Skills and Education
- Typically requires a Bachelors degree in an Engineering or other technical discipline with three (3) years of related experience, or the overall equivalent;
- Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) or similar certifications;
- Requires a solid understanding of Quality Assurance / Quality Control fundamentals and principles;
- Experience with Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) tools - A3, 8D, 3L5W, Ishikawa
- Experience with Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis (PFMEA)
- Experience operating within ISO 9001 processes;
- Strong background in problem solving techniques and analysis;
- Proficiency in standard and industry-related software including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database applications;
- Highly organized with effective written and verbal communication skills;
- Project leadership skills and the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams

Preferred Skills and Education
- VT Level II;
- ASQ Quality Certifications;
- Experience working in a quality program in support of government contracts, preferably DoD;
- Formal training in root cause analysis;
- ORACLE MRP system knowledge;
- TIPQA experience;
- GD&T experience and familiarity with portable metrology technology;
- Weld fabrication and machining experience with ability to interpret fabrication drawings.
