Shape the Future of Engineering at BAE Systems!
See what you’re missing. Our employees work on the world’s most advanced software and electronics – from developing world-class autonomous mission management capabilities to advanced data analytics to support the warfighters and the intelligence community. Spanning air, land, sea, and space, we are developing the technology of tomorrow, delivered today. Drawing strength from our differences, we’re innovating for the future. And you can, too.
Imagine being at the forefront of a seismic shift in the way engineering is done. BAE Systems' Model Based Engineering Capability Group (MBE CG) is on a mission to transform the industry with cutting-edge Digital Engineering (DE) and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices. We're seeking a visionary MBE expert to join our team and help propel and lead this revolution forward.
We are looking for a Model-based Engineering Capability Group (MBE CG) Section Leader in the Electronic Systems (ES) sector. In this "player-coach" role, you will be responsible for all aspects of a MBE CG team's performance in support of US Defense business areas, including the application of MBSE processes, tools, talent acquisition, and program performance. You will lead a small, borderless team through a digital transformation, splitting your time between people management and technical contributions on MBE programs or initiatives.
As MBE CG Section Leader responsibilities will include:
Collaborate with business area peer managers to staff programs and IRADs with MBE CG team members.
Partner with the MBE CG Director and other MBE CG Section Leaders to develop strategies for optimizing organizational performance.
Identify and develop critical model-based engineering skills required to support MBE CG objectives.
Develop and lead continuous improvement activities and ensure adoption within the organization.
Monitor industry trends and best practices to ensure BAE Systems maintains technical discriminators.
Collaborate with Business Area Digital Engineering Leads on adoption strategy and implementation.
As an MBSE contributor, responsibilities will include:
Utilize knowledge of MBSE processes, tools, and modeling languages (e.g., SysML, UML, UAF) to solve complex technical problems
Guide programs through their total MBSE development activities
Build models using MBSE methodologies, best practices, and tools
Create validation rules and specialized searches in the model database
Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite and remotely
Active US Government Secret security clearance (with ability to possess TS)
Bachelor's Degree in STEM field (or equivalent experience in a relevant field) with minimum Systems Engineering work experience of:
10+ Years with BS
8+ Years with MS
6+ Year with PHD
Proven experience leading technical teams in a matrixed organization
Experience in architectural model development or leading teams that develop model-based architectural models
Ability to negotiate effectively with higher level managers, customers, industry partners, and teammates
Proven track record of mentoring junior systems engineers
Technical proficiency in architectural model development using UML and/or SysML with tools such as MagicDraw, Cameo, or Rhapsody
Previous experience as a Functional Manager and demonstrated experience with strategy development and execution
Experience with digital threads, digital engineering ecosystems, and the integration of Modeling, Simulation, Visualization, and Analysis (MSVA)
Proficiency in Agile software development methodologies and task management tools (e.g. Jira)
Experience within the C4ISR domain, Government Reference Architectures (GRAs) and Autonomy solutions
Experience applying Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (ML/AI) within a systems engineering context
Experience developing training materials and delivering classroom and on-the-job instruction
