Job Description

BAE Systems is looking for a Modeling and Simulation Engineering Architect for our Rockville, MD office to support a training program.  The Modeling and Simulation Engineering Architect will work with a team of engineers, training developers, modeling & simulation experts, and instructors to deliver an integrated technical training solution to the military customer. The position is hybrid and will require at least 3 days per week in the office. The successful candidate will have a combination of modeling and simulation expertise, engineering knowledge, and business strategy experience.

Job Tasks:
  • Modeling and Simulation Architecture:
    • Design scalable, secure and cost-effective architecture solutions for the military application of modeling and simulation including: wargaming, training, education, exercises, and planning.
    • Research and recommend modeling and simulation tools and methods
    • Lead the integration and deployment of modeling and simulation tools, and assist in their employment
    • Serve as the resident modeling and simulation expert
  • Engineering Management:
    • Lead engineering design and review processes, serving as the Engineering Management resource
    • Develop detailed design and development documentation, including an Engineering Management Plan, and track and maintain progress through a series of design reviews
    • Represent the program in monthly Technical Interface Meetings with the customer
    • Manage requirements and track changes in a master database
    • Maintain a Quality Management System
    • Present solutions to leadership and customers with confidence and credibility. Produce written content that is able to be evaluated, compliant, and compelling.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships across business development, capture, engineering and finance.
  • Engineering Execution:
    • Oversee software and hardware procurement
    • Drive system integration work involving software and hardware, overseeing all components of this effort
    • Oversee system test planning and system tests; ensure all testing is scheduled and occurs
    • Oversee and review test result reporting, and ensure all necessary documentation and metrics are captured
    • Develop engineering timelines and tracking project progress
    • Oversee system configuration management
    • Oversee the drafting of Technical and Operator Manuals for the continued maintenance and operation of the system
    • Oversee end-user training and technical support
  • Business Strategy
    • Contribute to development of business strategy
    • Drive opportunities to expand work beyond current contract
    • Recommend and insert modeling and simulation solutions and methods into new business solutions as appropriate
    • Drive any future proposal efforts as the technical lead for the integrated solution narrative
    • Contribute technical expertise and writing inputs for proposals
Travel:
  • This role requires international travel.

Required Skills and Education

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or systems engineering 
  • 10+ years experience in defense/aerospace systems engineering, solution architecture, or technical leadership
Key Skills: 
  • Certified Solution Architect (formal Shipley Training) or equivalent with key credentials in domain (i.e. AWS/Azure, INCOSE CSEP, DoD enterprise architecture certification)
  • Modeling and Simulation for military end-users
  • Engineering process management
  • Architecture design and development
  • Program engineering planning and execution
  • High-Level Architecture (HLA) for communications
  • Customer and team communications
General Skills: 
  • Understanding of system integration, system administration, system testing, and configuration management
  • Project and schedule planning

Preferred Skills and Education

Master's or PhD degree in engineering, computer science, or systems engineering
