Position Summary 
In this role you will be providing technical support to the Top Level Assembly area in the form of enabling and improving the flow of product through the plant here in Cedar Rapids, IA. This is done by utilizing the disciplines of industrial and mechanical engineering while pushing for continuous improvements. This role will provide technical guidance and leadership to the Top Level group for processes and technologies. 
This position is on first shift Monday-Friday-7:30am-3:30pm.

In this Industrial Engineer opportunity, you will make impacts in the following ways;
  • Responsible for technical problem definition and solution in manufacturing environment. Interfaces with design engineering on incorporating changes to the designs which improve manufacturability.
  • Determines the most efficient sequence of operations and workflow, and establishes methods for maximum utilization of production facilities and personnel
  • Conducts studies pertaining to cost control, cost reduction, inventory control through the application of Lean principles.
  • Design and develop fixtures, jigs and aids using 3D modelling technology 
  • Maintain awareness of the technological state-of-the-art and of the Company's competitive position in the microelectronics areas.
  • Understands and considers how facility design and layout for manufacturing processes and equipment affect economic factors, process flow, operator efficiency, and comfort in performance of job duties.
  • Capacity and capability analysis for the area by implementing time and motion studies


Because of the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and/or the requirement to perform all work onsite due to the nature of this particular role, it will be performed full-time on site at the BAE Systems facility in Cedar Rapids, IA. This means work will be conducted on location at a BAE Systems facility 100% of the time.

Required Skills and Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Industrial Tech or equivalent
  • Experience with managing projects related to continuous improvements, capital investments and product line moves 
  • Demonstrated ability in using 3D modelling skills to create solutions such as fixtures, jigs and manufacturing aids. 
  • Must be able to obtain a secret clearance 

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Experience with the aerospace and defense industry (AS9100 standards)
  • 4+ years works in a manufacturing environment supporting safety, quality, cost and delivery.
  • Experience with conformal coating, torque tools, and soldering equipment
  • Experience with lean manufacturing methodologies (Green Belt Certification is a plus)
  • Experience with New Production Introduction (NPI) and evaluation of new designs for DFM
  • Experience with executing rate changes and plant layout initiatives
