Job Description

BAE Systems is seeking a Journeyman Computer Hardware Engineer to join our team supporting the Department of Defense (DoD) High Performance Computing (HPC) Modernization Program (DoD HPCMP) and Army Corps of Engineers, Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) DoD Supercomputing Resource Center (DSRC) located at Vicksburg, MS. The successful candidate will serve as a lead HW engineer for all HPC engineering and operations, and will be the lead HW liaison to senior government personnel supporting critical national DoD HPC systems.

Work includes research, design, development, and testing of information processing hardware such as computer chips, circuit boards, computer systems, and electrical components. Designs new or modifies existing products, develops technical specifications for production, analyzes hardware configuration and processing solutions, and tests hardware conformance to specifications.; Tier 4 (vendor) management including contact and control; interacting with end user representatives to collect operational feedback and forecast change in HPC system need; advising government and third parties on HPC technology capability & limitations; chairing contractor change advisory boards; managing technical personnel operating the HPC systems; supervising installs and upgrades to existing HPC systems; technical project proposals; technical project management; participation in technical forums; and representing our company in joint meetings with the customer on HPC technical topics.


Required Skills and Education

  • Bachelor's Degree and 6+ years’ working experience, or equivalent experience; candidates with Armed Forces college courses or Associate Degrees, extensive certification, and additional experience are highly encouraged to apply.
  • 4+ years’ experience with HPC systems, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)/CentOS operating systems (OS) and Intel central processing units (CPU)
  • Breadth of experience with various HPC technical systems including at least several of: Cray, SGI, HPE, Dell HPC systems
  • 8570.01M/ IAT-II

    • Cray/Cray EX, IBM, SGI, Penguin, or custom architectures
    • Linux variants OS
    • InfiniBand (IB), Intel Omni-Path interconnects
    • Portable Batch System (PBS), Simple Linux Utility for Resource Management (SLURM), or IBM Platform Load Sharing Facility (LSF) schedulers
    • Intel Xeon, AMD EPYC, or ARM CPUs
    • Nvidia graphic processing units (GPU)s
  • ITIL Foundation
