BAE Systems is seeking a Product Test Engineer for our Controls and Avionics Solutions business location in Fort Wayne, IN.  Being a trusted provider of commercial aircraft solutions, the CAS business develops, produces and services high reliability engine and flight control products for the leading manufacturers of commercial aircraft and their propulsion systems.  As a member of the BAE Systems’ team, you will have the opportunity to work hands-on with complex electronic controls, solving challenging problems to enhance product performance and value for our customers. 


In this Product Test Engineer role, the qualified candidate will provide engineering product support to the Flight Controls’ Regional Jet product lines within the Engine Systems and Aftermarket product centers.   Responsibilities include supporting a modern Avionics electronics manufacturing and service facility, defining and maintaining hardware test requirements, providing engineering guidance and support to Fort Wayne (FTW) Engine Systems’ (ES) Operations organizations.  Primary duties of an engineering Product Test Engineer (PTE) includes supporting the continuous improvement of engine and flight control’s product throughput test yield and delivered quality metrics. The engineering PTE is also responsible for providing on-site electrical design engineering support, while coordinating liaison activities with the Endicott, NY Design organization.  The PTE shall demonstrate ownership as the local focal point contact to Fort Wayne Operations and Programs functions during critical product root cause/corrective action investigations, and qualification activities.  Acting as the test authority on assigned products/processes, the PTE   Interfaces with internal and external customers on performance metrics, quality issues, reliability and other requests as required.

Required Skills and Education

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 2 yrs. + relevant professional experience
  • Electronics troubleshooting and instrument familiarity (analog, digital, power, communications).
  • Demonstrated ability in isolating electrical failures to root cause.
  • Proficient at interpreting engineering documentation including but not limited to schematics, assembly drawings, and component data sheets
  • Ability to interpret and apply specifications, standards, and customer requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and organize multiple activities in a team environment 
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Familiarity with the manufacturing and test of high reliability circuit card assemblies and their associated line replaceable units (LRU).
  • Experience using advanced test and analysis instrumentation (spectrum, bus and logic analyzers, etc.)
  • Experience programming in various software environments (Basic, UNIX, C++, NI LabVIEW, NI Test Stand, etc.)
  • Experienced with use of complex analytical tools.
  • Experience with Avionics’ interfaces.
  • Familiar with SPC techniques, 6 Sigma tools
  • Experience working in a high-paced manufacturing environment.
