POSITION SUMMARY  

The Energy and Capital Controller is a key leadership role responsible for providing strategic financial oversight, implementing robust controls, and producing insightful analysis with actionable conclusions for Agtegra's Energy business unit and critical capital initiatives. This role acts as a pivotal business partner, driving financial performance, supporting M&A activities, and supporting capital asset management strategies to optimize value and efficiency across the cooperative. This Controller will lead the fixed asset function, including direct supervision of personnel, and spearheading projects that enhance shared services and expense management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Financial Leadership (Energy Business Unit): 

  • Serve as the primary business partner for the Energy business unit, providing comprehensive controlling, financial planning & analysis (FP&A), and decision support.
  • Lead financial due diligence and integration for mergers and acquisitions (M&A) within the Energy sector.
  • Partner with Energy business unit leadership to identify key performance indicators and set up management systems to track and review those measures.
  • Help identify and mitigate business risks and pursue opportunities to drive profitability growth. 
  • Conduct monthend duties including: contract mark to market, inventory valuations, key account reconciliations, and review of business unit expenses and allocations.

Controlling (Capital Management):

  • Fleet Services: Provide financial leadership for central trucking initiatives, including developing control functions, managing internal allocations, and ensuring accurate asset tracking through the integration of the D365 financial system and the Fleet Management Information System (FMIS).
  • Maintenance & Capital: Drive financial support for maintenance and operational excellence initiatives. Implement and monitor control functions related to capital projects, and oversee the integration between Limble the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and D365 the financial system.

Fixed Asset Leadership:

  • Own and direct all aspects of fixed asset accounting, including policy, procedure, reconciliation, and reporting.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop one direct report responsible for fixed asset accounting.

Project & Analytical Leadership:

  • Lead cross-functional shared services projects aimed at improving efficiency and service delivery.
  • Champion and execute complex expense analysis projects, providing actionable recommendations to senior management.
  • Develop and present financial models, forecasts, and performance metrics to support and/or prioritize key initiatives.

Financial Reporting & Controls:

  • Collaborate with the Financial Controller and CFO on consolidated financial statements, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting for designated areas, adhering to GAAP and internal policies.
  • Enhance and maintain a strong internal control environment concerning but not limited to Capital Management and Energy.
  • Prepare specialized financial schedules and analyses for Executive Management and the Board of Directors 

Continuous Improvement & System Optimization:

  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, strengthen controls especially in the areas of technology usage and process standardization
  • Advise on and lead initiatives related to financial system reporting and business intelligence tools.

Leadership & Team Management:

  • Coach and motivate team members to meet performance standards through coaching, feedback, goal setting, communicating and maintaining fair and consistent application of policies and practices.
  • Provide leadership in managing team performance, including setting measurable goals, tracking metrics, and holding employees accountable.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance and at least seven years of related experience. 
  • Technical and working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret and implement corporate policies and translate that strategic guidance into tactical, written procedures.
  • Skill in work prioritization, organization, and time management.  Ability to adapt to and implement change.
  • Ability to perform detailed work accurately and independently in compliance with deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Strong computer software skills including word processing, Excel, and database applications.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding business-related files, reports and conversations, within the provision of Freedom of Information Act and other applicable State and Federal statutes and regulations.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship. 
  • English proficiency.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Valid driver's license. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • CPA license and/or an advanced degree (MBA, Master's in Accounting/Finance).
  • Experience in the energy or agricultural cooperative industry.
  • Specific experience with M&A, FMIS (e.g., RTA), and CMMS (e.g., Limble) systems.
  • Previous experience with AGRIS or Agvance software.
