Electronics Design Engineer — PCB Design
Location: Colorado Springs, CO 80915
Hire Type: Full-Time
Shift: No Shift Specified
Pay Range: $120,000–$180,000/year
U.S. Citizenship required.
Position Summary
Our client is seeking a hands-on Electronics Design Engineer to design, build, test, and troubleshoot complex electronic hardware supporting RF, SATCOM, airborne, and mission-critical defense applications.
This is a system-level PCB design role. The ideal candidate will personally own the hardware design process from schematic capture through PCB layout, fabrication, board bring-up, laboratory testing, validation, and troubleshooting.
Hands-on Altium PCB layout experience is required. This is not a role where PCB layout is routinely handed off to a dedicated PCB designer.
The engineer will work with RF, analog, digital, signal, switching, and power-distribution circuits and will collaborate closely with mechanical, systems, and manufacturing teams in a small, technically focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Own PCB designs from concept and schematic capture through Altium layout, fabrication, bring-up, testing, and validation.
- Personally perform PCB layout in Altium Designer for RF, analog, digital, signal, switching, and power-distribution circuits.
- Design electronic assemblies for systems operating at power levels under 500W.
- Develop and maintain accurate schematics, BOMs, design documentation, and test plans.
- Apply EMI/EMC design principles throughout the hardware development process.
- Design and test RF cable assemblies for RF-frequency and EMI/EMC-compliant applications.
- Perform hands-on laboratory testing and validation using electronic test equipment.
- Troubleshoot hardware during board bring-up and production.
- Perform failure analysis, board modifications, and PCB rework as needed.
- Support development and expansion of automated laboratory test setups.
- Collaborate with mechanical, systems, and manufacturing engineers, including the use of SolidWorks for mechanical integration.
- Document design decisions, test results, troubleshooting activities, and corrective actions.
- Work independently and take ownership of projects in a small-team environment.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of electronics design experience with hands-on PCB design.
- Demonstrated experience personally performing PCB layout in Altium Designer.
- Experience taking electronic hardware from schematic through layout, fabrication, board bring-up, testing, and validation.
- Experience with RF, analog, and digital electronics.
- Strong knowledge and practical application of EMI/EMC design principles.
- Experience with RF cable design and testing.
- Hands-on experience with electronic laboratory test equipment, troubleshooting, debugging, and failure analysis.
- Experience with PCB rework or board-level modifications.
- Experience with SolidWorks and mechanical/electrical design collaboration.
- Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership in a small-company environment.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Must be eligible to obtain a security clearance. An active clearance is not required on day one.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SATCOM, aerospace, airborne, or defense electronics.
- Experience supporting RF/communications hardware or antenna systems.
- Experience with Keysight ADS.
- Experience developing or supporting automated laboratory test systems.
- Familiarity with waveguide components and design.
- Experience with government or mission-critical electronics programs.
Education
Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Location
Colorado Springs, Colorado — On-site
Local Colorado Springs candidates are strongly preferred.
Compensation
