Basic Qualifications
- Must have a valid Florida Driver's License
- Proficient in fiber optic cabling, possessing a strong understanding of their properties and applications such as splicing, testing, troubleshooting and accurate dress in
- Familiarity with Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) specifications
- Knowledge of telecommunication specifications relevant to copper cable and fiber optics
- Familiarity with tools used for the repair and installing fiber cabling, such as fusion splicers and OTDR equipment
- Familiarity with tools used for the repair, testing, splicing, and installing copper cable including CAT5e and CAT6 cabling
- Understanding of safety training, including maintenance of traffic and confined space protocols
- Skilled and decisive in troubleshooting while optimally identifying and resolving issues and repairs of fiber optic lines
- Proficient in locating and marking cable of the fiber optic lines to facilitate excavation work in the designated area
- Ability to work in confined spaces while adhering to safety guidelines
- Proficient in splicing, testing, and terminating fiber optic cables
- Experience working with high count fiber optic splice cases, single panel housings and fiber termination shelves
- Knowledgeable in OSP and ISP fiber optic cable and splice case placement
- Excellent collaboration skills, capable of working with various departments and vendors to achieve common goals
- Can deliver clear and concise verbal and written messages in English that facilitate a mutual understanding
- Candidates may be asked to take a written and practical (fiber splicing) assessment after the interview
Required Education
- High school diploma or GED
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or equivalent is preferred
Responsibilities
- Daily address and resolve trouble tickets assigned by lead technicians and management
- Specialize in Internet Service Provider (ISP) and Outside Plant (OSP) fiber optic testing
- Set up and champion support for the fiber network during broadcasts or special events
- Install and maintain copper cable and fiber optics for Audio, Video, and Control Systems (AM&CS) installations
- Attend vital training programs to stay updated and ensure job competence and safety, including confined space training
- Install fiber optic cabling required for new buildings and building rehabilitations
- Identify and mark cable/fiber lines to make possible the issuance of dig permits
- Use specialized equipment such as OTDR and IOLM to diagnose issues with fiber optics and isolate the root cause
- Pump utility access holes to facilitate the installation of fiber lines
- Regularly splice, test, and terminate fiber optic lines using high precision fusion splicing machines
- Aggressively ensure traffic safety when working in active roadways
- Perform installations, maintenance, and repairs in accordance with Disney specifications
Compensation Details
The pay rate for this role in Florida is $32.03 per hour.
