Electro-Mechanical Technician

**Shift:** A Shift (6:00am-6:00pm) on a 2-2-3 schedule

**Pay:** $32.95 - $37.00, based on experience

Position Summary

The Electro-Mechanical Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing production equipment, utilities, and facilities to ensure maximum uptime, product quality, employee safety, and compliance with food safety and regulatory standards. This role supports production efficiency, continuous improvement initiatives, and adherence to the production schedule through effective troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and technical expertise.

Key Areas of Responsibility

- Maintain and service production lines, prep areas, storage areas (dry and finished goods), chillers, fire and safety systems, buildings, grounds, CIP systems, and bulk chemical handling equipment.
- Ensure all maintenance activities meet or exceed regulatory standards, including:
• National Electrical Code (NEC)
• Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines
• Uniform Building Code (UBC)
• Local and state environmental regulations

Essential Duties

Equipment Maintenance & Repair
- Install, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair food manufacturing equipment, including:
• Dough mixers and dough handling equipment
• Conveyor systems
• Pretzel baking ovens and cookers
• Packaging equipment: baggers, case packers, case sealers, and metal detectors
- Perform electrical troubleshooting on motors, contactors, overloads, photo eyes, and proximity switches.
- Perform mechanical repairs, including:
• Gearboxes
• Pumps
• Conveyor systems
• Bearing and shaft replacements or repairs
- Work with Allen Bradley PLC systems, servo motors, servo drives, and VFDs for machine control and automation.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance (PM/PdM) using technologies such as ultrasound, thermal imaging, oil analysis, and vibration analysis.
- Calibrate and adjust process equipment to OEM specifications.
- Execute both planned and unplanned work, documenting findings in the CMMS.

Safety & Compliance
- Follow all plant and departmental safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout, Arc Flash, and Hot Work Permits.
- Adhere to GMPs and food safety protocols for assigned areas.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA and other applicable workplace safety regulations.

Continuous Improvement
- Apply root cause analysis (RCA), breakdown failure analysis (BDA), and cause mapping to identify and correct recurring issues.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to reduce downtime and improve reliability.
- Support Autonomous Maintenance (AM) initiatives, including cleaning, inspection, and lubrication training for operators.

Documentation & Communication
- Interpret and work from blueprints, P&IDs, single-line electrical drawings, pneumatic and hydraulic schematics, and OEM manuals.
- Clearly communicate with operations, maintenance, and vendors to resolve issues and coordinate repairs.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, blueprints, and common industry publications.
- Capable of synthesizing complex or diverse information and following detailed written or verbal instructions, correspondence, and memos.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with employees at all levels.
- Works effectively in a team-based environment and contributes to collaborative problem-solving.
- Proficient in performing basic arithmetic functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) with whole numbers, decimals, fractions, and mixed numbers.
- Skilled in using precision measuring tools and converting measurements between feet/inches and decimal formats.
- Ability to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Proficient in SAP for data entry, work order documentation, and recording maintenance findings.
- Strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Capable of making sound decisions under pressure and in time-sensitive situations.

Qualifications

Education & Experience
- Associate’s degree, technical certification, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Strong background in industrial control systems, Allen Bradley PLC troubleshooting, servo systems, and VFDs.
- Experience troubleshooting food manufacturing equipment, including dough mixers, conveyors, ovens, cookers, and packaging systems.
- Experience in food or beverage manufacturing is strongly preferred.

Licenses & Certifications
- Valid driver’s license.
- Forklift and aerial lift certification (or ability to obtain).
- Mechanical/electrical certifications preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Climbing, balancing, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Good vision and hearing for detailed work and equipment monitoring.

Work Environment

- Work performed in both indoor manufacturing environments and outdoor conditions.
- Exposure to dust, noise, heat, and cold.
- Must be willing to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Travel

Minimal travel required.

Individual base pay depends on work location and additional factors such as experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training. Total pay may include other forms of compensation.
