Position Summary
The Electro-Mechanical Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving electrical, mechanical, and control systems that support manufacturing operations. This role helps ensure equipment reliability, process stability, safety, and production efficiency in a high-precision, quality-driven environment. Working in a technically advanced manufacturing setting, the Electro-Mechanical Technician supports production equipment and related facility systems, with a strong focus on minimizing downtime and sustaining equipment performance. The position requires hands-on capability in mechanical assemblies, pneumatics, electrical systems, PLC-controlled equipment, industrial automation, and systematic diagnostics, as well as effective collaboration with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality. In addition to responding to equipment issues, the Electro-Mechanical Technician contributes to preventive maintenance programs, equipment upgrades, root cause investigations, and the integration of new manufacturing systems. The ideal candidate applies a safety-focused, disciplined approach to troubleshooting, communicates clearly, and works independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Respond to equipment breakdowns, identify faults, complete safe repairs, and return production equipment to service with minimal downtime
Troubleshoot 24 VDC and 120/208/240/480 VAC circuits, control panels, power supplies, relays, contactors, circuit breakers, fuses, transformers, motors, variable-frequency drives, and machine wiring
Use PLC and HMI diagnostics, input/output status, alarms, and ladder logic to isolate equipment faults; make authorized program or parameter adjustments in accordance with change-control requirements
Inspect, repair, replace, align, and adjust mechanical components, including bearings, shafts, belts, pulleys, couplings, gearboxes, linear guides, pumps, valves, actuators, and guarding
Diagnose pneumatic and vacuum-system issues involving regulators, solenoid valves, cylinders, fittings, tubing, gauges, pumps, leak points, and related controls
Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance, including inspection, cleaning, lubrication, calibration checks, component replacement, electrical testing, and verification of safety devices
Install and commission new or relocated equipment by completing mechanical assembly, anchoring, utility connections, wiring, sensor setup, alignment, functional testing, and startup support
Use multimeters, clamp meters, insulation testers, signal simulators, pressure and vacuum gauges, calipers, micrometers, torque tools, and alignment instruments to diagnose and verify repairs
Read and redline electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, pneumatic diagrams, equipment manuals, and bills of material to reflect field conditions and completed modifications
Document work performed, failure symptoms, root cause, corrective action, labor time, parts used, and follow-up recommendations in the computerized maintenance management system before closing work orders
Participate in root cause analysis for recurring failures and implement approved corrective actions, reliability improvements, and error-proofing solutions with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality
Verify machine interlocks, emergency stops, guards, sensors, and other safety devices after maintenance and before releasing equipment to production
Apply Lockout/Tagout, electrical safe-work practices, Arc Flash requirements, personal protective equipment, and contamination-control procedures during all assigned work
Maintain organized tools and work areas, identify critical spare-part needs, and notify the Maintenance Manager of obsolete, damaged, or low-stock components
Provide scheduled off-shift, weekend, or on-call support as assigned to address production-critical equipment issues
Qualifications
Associate degree, technical diploma, completed apprenticeship, or equivalent military or industrial training in electro-mechanical technology, industrial maintenance, electrical technology, mechanical technology, automation, or a related field
Current and valid Massachusetts Journeyman Electrician License, or higher-level Massachusetts electrical license, required
Minimum of three years of hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing electro-mechanical production equipment in a manufacturing, industrial, or similarly regulated environment
Demonstrated ability to safely troubleshoot energized and de-energized electrical circuits using a digital multimeter and other appropriate test equipment
Working knowledge of PLC-controlled machinery, including the ability to review ladder logic, monitor input/output status, interpret alarms, and isolate control-system faults
Hands-on experience repairing motors, drives, sensors, relays, contactors, bearings, gearboxes, belts, pulleys, pumps, valves, actuators, pneumatic components, and related industrial equipment
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, pneumatic diagrams, equipment manuals, and technical specifications
Ability to perform mechanical disassembly and assembly, equipment alignment, precision measurement, torque application, wiring termination, and component replacement using established procedures
Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout, Arc Flash, machine guarding, electrical safe-work practices, and applicable OSHA requirements
Ability to enter clear and complete maintenance records, communicate equipment status and repair findings, and use Microsoft Office and a computerized maintenance management system
Ability to independently prioritize work, follow written procedures, escalate safety or production risks, and collaborate effectively with Maintenance, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality personnel
Ability to work in cleanroom or controlled manufacturing areas and wear required personal protective equipment
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, bend, kneel, climb ladders, work in restricted equipment areas, and lift or move up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
