Electrical Panel Assembler

Installs electrical components and assembles into control cabinets, electrical and industrial equipment, and related industrial apparatus, according to layout and schematics. Lays out back panel for electrical component installations according to drawing package. Drills and taps holes in specified locations for mounting control units, using hand tools and drill press. Terminates wires to all components for low and high voltage applications.

 

Job Functions

  • Read and understand electrical schematics (ladder diagrams) and mechanical layouts.  Possess a good understanding of electrical components.
  • Using the electrical print, verify all parts are accounted for.  Position and layout panel with parts in specified relationship to each other in fixture or holding device.
  • Affix terminals and wiring to panel as directed by project drawing, schematic, and customer specified practices.
  • Install wire ducts, Din rail, and panel components including power supplies, control relays, circuit breakers, transformers, logic controllers, drives and other control equipment.
  • Crimp, screw, bolt, press fit, or perform similar operations to join or secure parts in place, using hand tools, and automation equipment.
  • Select appropriate wire gauges based on drawings, customer specific practices and component manufacturer and circuit requirements.
  • Connect wires between individual component leads and other components, connectors, terminals, and contact points.  Cut wire to specified length and route, comb, twist, wrap, tied and attached wire to terminal points.

Qualifications


Education and Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read electrical diagrams - strong preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Able to learn to operate assorted power and hand-tools safely.
  • Able to read small print, differentiate colors, and compare numbers is essential.
  • Must have average manual dexterity to perform repetitive to non-repetitive assembly tasks constantly using hands and arms to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Able to read a tape measure.
  • Good math skills are preferred
  • Able to work independently and with others under direct supervision.
  • Able to lift 25lbs frequently and up to 75lbs occasionally.
  • Regularly required to sit or stand, bend, kneel and reach up to 10 hours per day.
