Position Summary: The Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for electrical and instrumentation reliability, upgrade, and expansion of Site electrical and instrumentation systems. You will provide oversight of the design standards, purchase, construction, and installation of electrical and instrumentation components or systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Investigates, tests and specifies instrumentation applications solutions.
- Assists in incident investigations identifying root causes and appropriate corrective action to improve safety and environmental performance at the Bessemer City plant site.
- Tracks and coordinates execution of work orders for both electrical reliability and PSC/PSM compliance on electrical/instrument systems.
- Implements Best Practices for maintenance of sensing and control equipment; including establishing acceptance criteria for PM and PdM activities on sensing and control equipment.
- Ensures that the results of electrical reliability activities are evaluated and that they maintain PSC/PSM compliance on electrical/instrument systems and that the results are consistent with the established acceptance criteria.
- Works with third party electrical distribution subject matter experts to implement Best Practices for maintenance of control and distribution equipment; including establishing acceptance criteria for PM and PdM activities on electrical distribution equipment that comply with specifications, codes, and reliability requirements.
- Ensures that the results of electrical reliability activities are evaluated and that they maintain PSC/PSM compliance on electrical/instrument systems and that the results are consistent with the established acceptance criteria.
- Ensure that Bessemer City Electrical Mechanical Integrity procedures (Currently 29 site specific policies) are aligned with Livent’s corporate electrical MI standards as well as all applicable codes and standards.
- Ensures compliance to PSM Mechanical Integrity requirements.
- Works with CES, Procurement and local site to select vendors and contractors based on sound understanding of technical capabilities, ability to deliver, and past experience.
- Works with external Electrical Distribution experts in the design and execution of equipment reliability plans.
- Works with project teams and electrical contractors to ensure that site electrical and instrumentation standards are used in the development and construction of capital projects.
- Coordinates the handover of the project to the Site Commissioning Team in a detailed and meticulous manner so that there are no surprises or unknowns.
- Reviews electrical design drawings, equipment/instrument specifications, etc. to ensure quality of design, conformance to standards and compatibility with existing installations.
- Prepares detailed electrical and instrumentation design packages in support of small projects.
- Directs and coordinates design, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and reliability requirements.
- Develops and maintains CAD design drawings including key Process Safety Information documents such as Loop Drawings.
- Develops standards for E&I equipment to be used at the Bessemer City plant site.
- Evaluates the capability of contractor resources to perform according to specifications in the bid package and award bids based on that evaluation; complete purchase requisition in SAP for approval by the Project Manager.
- Supervises/coordinates activities of contractors engaged in construction on AFE projects including installation of instrumentation and electrical distribution.
- Ensures that the site maintains compliance to all applicable electrical codes and standards (NFPA, NEC, etc).
- Ensures that E&I equipment is installed to site design specifications as specified in the design package.
- Maintains site electrical distribution drawings.
- Ensure compliance to applicable codes for the operation of electrolytic cells.
- Promotes a strong belief that all jobs must be performed safely and that no job is worth doing that would risk the health, safety, or welfare of the plant employees, contractors or community.
- Assists in incident investigations identifying root causes and appropriate corrective action to improve safety and environmental performance at the Bessemer City plant site.
- Ensures contractor personnel receive required safety training.
- Provides leadership/support for implementation of electrical safety in the maintenance organization.
- Participates on PHA teams.
- Supports the site’s safety efforts through activities such as safety observations and key safety procedure audits.
- Investigates and tests vendors’ products.
- Provides technical advice and troubleshooting capability to maintenance, operations, project engineering, and process engineering.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college required - Electrical Engineering/Electrical Engineering Technology preferred.
- Minimum of six (6) years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience required - prior experience within a chemical manufacturing environment preferred.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- In-depth experience with transformers, MCC’s, variable speed motors, distribution systems from 4160 to 480 volts, and process control instrumentation is required.
- Experience with electrolysis systems such as rectifiers and bus bar distribution involving motion controls is a plus.
