Job Overview:

Join the Team That Builds Life-Saving Vehicles

Why Life Line?

At Life Line, you won’t just build parts — you’ll help build ambulances that save lives every day. When you join our team, you become part of something bigger. We foster a supportive, team-oriented environment where your skills grow, your hard work is valued, and your contributions truly make a difference.

Position Summary

Support the design, build, testing, and continuous improvement of the electrical systems in our ambulances. You'll work closely with electrical engineers, production teams, and quality staff to make sure every vehicle we build has reliable, safe, standards-compliant electrical systems. EMS crews depend on these systems in life-or-death situations. This is a hands-on role that splits time between the engineering office, the production floor, and the R&D Lab.

Key Responsibilities

Design and documentation support

  • Create and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, harness drawings, and bills of materials using CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, or similar).
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation, including revision control and engineering change notices (ECNs).
  • Help develop wiring layouts for patient compartment and chassis integration, including circuit routing, fusing, and load calculations.
  • Review work orders for accuracy and determination of production requirements.

Prototyping and build support

  • Build and modify prototype harnesses and electrical assemblies, including crimping, soldering, and ultrasonic splicing.

  • Install and integrate vehicle systems such as multiplex/load management controls, warning lights and sirens, HVAC controls, inverters and shoreline charging, oxygen monitoring, patient compartment lighting, and communications equipment.

  • Serve as the technical resource for production technicians, resolving wiring issues and answering questions about drawings on the floor.

 Testing and troubleshooting

  • Perform electrical system testing on prototypes and production units, including load testing, voltage drop checks, continuity and insulation testing, and functional verification.

  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults on vehicles in production, in final inspection, and returning under warranty.

  • Record test results and support root cause analysis and corrective actions.

Compliance and Quality

  • Help verify that electrical systems meet applicable ambulance standards, including KKK-A-1822F, NFPA 1917, CAAS GVS, and relevant FMVSS and SAE requirements.

  • Follow chassis manufacturer body builder guidelines (e.g., Ford, Ram, Chevrolet) for electrical integration.

  • Support audits, certification testing, and quality inspections.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve harness design, manufacturability, reliability, and cost.

  • Evaluate new components and suppliers in coordination with engineering and purchasing.

  • Help develop work instructions and train production staff on new or revised electrical processes.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Associate degree in electrical/electronics engineering technology or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years of experience with automotive, heavy equipment, RV, specialty vehicle, or similar 12V/24V DC electrical systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and harness drawings.

  • Hands-on skill with multimeters, test equipment, and harness tools (crimpers, soldering equipment, heat shrink tools).

  • Solid understanding of DC circuits, fusing, wire sizing, grounding, and voltage drop.

  • Working knowledge of CAD software and Microsoft Office.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in ambulance, fire apparatus, bus, or other emergency or specialty vehicle manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with multiplex systems, CAN bus networks, and vehicle diagnostic tools.
  • Knowledge of KKK-A-1822F, NFPA 1917, or CAAS GVS ambulance standards.
  • Experience with inverters, battery management, and shore power systems.

  • Experience with ultrasonic wire splicing and harness manufacturing equipment.

Working Environment

  • Split between office and manufacturing environments, with exposure to typical shop noise and conditions.

  • Must be able to work in and around vehicles, including crawling under chassis, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.

  • Occasional travel may be required for supplier visits, customer deliveries, or field support.

  • Valid driver's license required. The role may involve moving or road testing vehicles.

Additional Requirements

  • Must adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Team player who is results-oriented and motivated to achieve high standards in every aspect of the role.
  • Other duties as assigned

Contingencies of Employment

  • Successful completion of a background check, pre-employment drug screen and physical examination.
  • Successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, if applicable to the position.
