Job Overview:

Reporting to the Automation Supervisor, the Electrical Engineer is responsible for evaluating electrical systems, products, components, and applications by specifying and conducting research programs, applying knowledge of electricity and materials, and confirming system and component capabilities by specifying testing methods and testing properties. 

Responsibilities 

  • Develop specifications for new electrical power systems
  • Lead the modification of existing electrical power systems
  • Maintain Plant One Line Diagram and update changes
  • Maintain Arc Flash documentation for all electrical panels and ensure proper PPE is being worn by the maintenance technicians
  • Initiate and manage electrical system reliability projects to improve site electrical reliability. Submit major capital reliability projects for budget with proper justification
  • Review electrical system coordination studies and protective device settings to ensure that they are providing sufficient equipment protection and selectivity and that they are properly documented. If issues are found, engineer and implement the repair
  • Lead root cause failure analysis and engineer the permanent corrective action to permanently resolve the issue
  • Provide reliability input into maintenance procedures, standards, and specifications
  • Identify, quantify, and implement initiatives that will improve overall equipment reliability and performance
  • Conduct regular and formal downtime analysis for critical equipment.  Determine RC and PCA for issues found
  • Manage maintenance upgrade projects to improve infrastructure systems
  • Review electrical system inspection/maintenance reports and initiate, or verify initiation of, corrective action to resolve problems discovered. Track resolution of outstanding issues to ensure they are completed in a timely manner
  • Evaluate current preventative/predictive maintenance program to identify areas of improvement and implement changes as necessary
  • Investigate electrical equipment failures as necessary to determine root cause and recommend appropriate solutions to reduce the recurrence of, or eliminate (if possible) the cause of failure
  • Provide technical assistance to the site for the electrical distribution system, electrical equipment, generators, rectifiers, plant radio system, etc. Engineer and lead corrections as required
  • Initiates and manages all aspects of electrical projects from creation to completion. This includes project scope development, budget estimation, equipment specification, bidding, purchasing, managing external vendors and contractors working on the projects
  • Work with Nokian Tyres project group to ensure all electrical designs are in compliance with Nokian Tyres standards, the national and local codes, and accepted industry recommended practices such as the National Electric Code, NFPA, API, and IEEE
  • Assist the maintenance group in developing the electrical system maintenance work scopes for major unit shutdowns.  Engineer the budgetary costs and manage the implementation
  • Provide technical assistance in electrical safety issues
  • Maintain technical expertise and keep abreast of electrical technology/design changes as they apply to potential plant equipment/production improvements
  • Fully support Company goals of continuous improvement and operational excellence at strategic and tactical levels, including reviewing area of responsibility for improvement opportunities to initiate projects or communicate ideas to management, as well as active leadership and participation on project teams
  • Follow all company environmental rules/procedures and handle all materials in a manner designed to minimize environmental impact
  • Engineer and lead the design and implementation of company safety rules/procedures to meet OSHA requirements (including Lock Out Tag Out policy) to prevent injury to self and others and to maintain safe equipment and conditions in entire area of responsibility 
  • Complete the LOTO placards as required for each lock out point with potential and kinetic deenergization
  • Seek the assistance and advice of safety representatives on matters concerning safe practices, policies and/or procedures and give personal support to all safety activities and procedures
  • Works with vendors to source external services for electrical and facilities related issues
  • Other duties as required

  • Have adequate maintenance knowledge and skill to accurately estimate labor hours, material requirements and skills needed to complete a job
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to visualize and communicate the execution of work 
  • Should have good written and verbal communication skills and have demonstrated the ability to be approachable and tactful
  • Must be a problem solver
  • Good math skills and computer skills (Microsoft Office) 
  • Demonstrated organizational, planning and program management skills
  • Demonstrate ability to write and provide simple and accurate instructions
  • Familiar with specifications, design features, operating modes and rules for technical operation of electrical installations and electrical equipment within the area of responsibility
  • Ability to coordinate and manage repairs to completion
  • Familiar with methods of design, installation, setting, adjustment and repair of electrical installations and electrical equipment
  • Familiar with safety rules and regulations use of personal protective equipment
  • Familiar with the procedure of repair and installation of cable networks in explosive, flammable and other severe environments
  • Ability to read electrical diagrams and other technical documentation related to the factory’s electrical equipment, automation systems and relay protection
  • Electrical circuits of primary and secondary switchgear of distribution devices U=10/0.4 kV
  • Know and understand typical types of damage to electrical devices and methods for their elimination
  • Must be able to conduct electrical installations
  • Understand basic tire and component production process
  • Must be able to understand diagrams of working and emergency power supply to plant consumers
  • Must be able to understand algorithms of operation of protection and automation circuits of serviced electrical equipment
  • Must know methods and have practical skills to identify faults in power electrical equipment, protection and automation circuits
  • Understand rules for performing load movement operations with the use of lifting mechanisms controlled from the floor
  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish goals in team based environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Requirements 

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience working 10 years with electrical distribution systems in a manufacturing environment 
  • Background in PLC's, AC and DC motor and drive controls, basic power distribution and relay board logic required
  • Data driven and analytic with technical ability to solve complex problems and exercise judgement based on the analysis of multiple sources of information.
  • Statistical aptitude
  • Lean manufacturing knowledge/certification a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  This position will not offer relocation or visa sponsorship.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Operates in both an office environment and manufacturing environment, including indoor environmental conditions and noise
  • Must be able to continuously stand, hear, listen, talk, walk, bend, stoop, kneel or squat
  • Occasionally required to sit, use repetitive hand motion, pull, push and lift up to 20 pounds
