Job Summary:

Under limited supervision, designs, develops or redesigns new or existing electrical component control model strategies. Works from procedures, requirements or instructions to develop, design or redesign control strategies & architectures to improve the organization's products. Interfaces and negotiates project and engineering related issues with customers, supplier, sales and manufacturing. Acts as a resource for less experienced engineering professionals.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Coordinates and manages the design, development, troubleshooting and debugging of control models and application software for electrical components.  
  2. Reviews customer’s requirements and specifications for product(s) and identifies necessary product design details and exceptions, where appropriate. 
  3. Creates detailed specifications of design, features and/or algorithms.  May create prototypes to evaluate product concept using HIL and MIL testing.  Provides initial approval in light of specification and requirements.
  4. Performs software testing, checks against specifications and records all items that meet or fail specifications and investigates issues. Analyzes testing results, identifies issues/problems and makes and/or implements recommendations for improvement. Reports test results internally.
  5. Ensures quality, on-time delivery using established processes and test driven development principles.
  6. Supports root cause analysis of problems and performs complex quality checks. Identifies and analyzes quality problems, determines impact and makes recommendations for improvements.
  7. Oversees the performance/evaluation of engineering product development. Documents and reviews results and data obtained from bench and vehicle evaluations. Investigates necessary design changes based upon the evaluation results.
  8. Assists the Quality Engineering team with QA gates and warranty investigations to determine the root cause. Investigates and recommends any necessary design changes if the root cause is design related. Collaborate on a technical level with customers, plants, suppliers and regional divisions regarding engineering issues.
  9. Composes test and technical reports. Delivers more complex presentations to internal and external audiences.
  10. Analyzes current processes, procedures and systems and makes recommendations for improvement for own job. Supports to modify processes, procedures and systems or implement improvements.
  11. Provides technical leadership to and assists in training less experienced engineers.  May assign or direct their daily work.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field required.
  • 5-8 years of relevant experience required.
  • 3+ years of model based controls design experience, preferably with inverter and motor controls in the automotive industry.
  • 5+ years of experience working with Electronic Control Units, within the automotive industry preferred.

Skills and Abilities: 

  • Model Based Controls development skills using MATLAB, Simulink and Stateflow, and experience testing of the designed software on HIL and MIL systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of microcomputer, hardware, software, development tools, and de-bugging methods in order to develop, configure, test and de-bug software.  Advanced knowledge and demonstrated competency in working with computer software and development tools such as INCA, CANape and CANoe in order to troubleshoot issues and extrapolate, manipulate and analyze data.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of general engineering principles and methodologies.
  • Written and verbal communication skills and oral presentation skills to interpret information based on a general knowledge of the organization, its products, and/or procedures and provide an independent explanation and discussion based on the technical or complex nature of the materials being discussed. Adept at negotiating and resolving fundamental issues. Garners support of others for issues and projects. 
  • Negotiation skills to resolve difficult or complicated situations that are often sensitive in nature, while making point firmly and seeking a positive outcome for both sides.
  • Project management skills, including the ability to define program, project or process objectives, identify customers/stakeholders and their interests, plan steps, and to coordinate resources to accomplish goals and objectives in an effective and timely manner

 Annual Salary: $100,000-$125,000
