Reporting to the Plant Engineer, the Electrical Controls Engineer is responsible for effectively managing and continuously improving this food facility’s highly automated, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) technology-based machine and process control systems, in a manner fully supporting the Plant’s daily production goals, the maintenance organization’s mission, and the business’s longer term capital project plans.  

 

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in designing, developing, implementing, maintaining and troubleshooting PLC based control systems and related technologies to include Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Ethernet based PLC and Computer networking, Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), AC/DC Motor Drives, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), Multi-axis Servo Controllers, Closed Single Loop Controllers, Digital and Analog Instrumentation, Sensors, Encoders, Actuators, etc. Hands on PLC programming and diagnostic skills will also be used routinely and extensively to drive high uptime equipment performance and process reliability. 


 

Your Contribution to Excellence 

  • Lead the design, development, implementation, maintenance and troubleshooting of the Plant's PLC based factory floor machine and process control systems in accordance with the NFPA 70, local, state, and federal standards and guidelines.   
  • Serve as the site's Controls expert technical troubleshooting "go-to" resource for the Electrical Maintenance Team.  
  • Specify, source and initiate the purchasing of electrical controls related hardware and software.   
  • Manage capital projects to include Management of Change (MOC), project scoping, project planning, contractor bidding, supervision & directing of contracted Programmers and System Integrators.   
  • Supports and develops control systems documentation packages (P&IDs, Ladder Logic notes, Electrical Schematics, Machine Labeling, Standard Operating Procedures).   
  • Support all company policies, Employee Safety standards, Food Safety initiatives, USDA & FDA Regulations, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). 
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations, including active participation in the prompt identification and communication of safety hazards. 
  • Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 
  • The position may supervise members of the Electrical team while performing projects and/or continuous improvement initiatives. 

 

What you Bring to the Table

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or related field, with 3 years of experience. 
  • Proven experience in PLC logic and programming with the following PLCs: Allen Bradley, Siemens and GE. 
  • PLC ethernet networking knowledge and skills. 
  • Experience in machine control electronics 
  • Electrical knowledge supporting the evaluation, troubleshooting and implementation of corrective actions of complex electrical controls, on both micro-processor and relay designs, also includes AC/DC motor controls. 
  • Must be able to create and read logic and flow diagrams for program design, programming, simulation and testing, and start-up. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in written and verbal technical communications.  
  • Ability to prioritize, plan and simultaneously work on multiple strategic and tactical work items. 
  • Well-organized, self-motivated, and detail oriented, with the ability to plan and execute job tasks independently. 
  • Strong computer skills, specifically the ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, AutoCAD, PowerPoint, and Outlook. 
  • Keen situational awareness and adaptability skills.
