Position Summary:
The PLC Controls Engineer is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and support of automation and control systems that drive manufacturing efficiency and continuous improvement. This hands-on role combines electrical design, PLC programming, equipment integration, and troubleshooting to support production operations. The ideal candidate will lead automation projects from concept through implementation while collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize manufacturing processes, improve system performance, and integrate new technologies across the facility.
Responsibilities
- Lead the integration of new manufacturing processes and automated equipment, including the design, programming, testing, and commissioning of control systems from concept through production.
- Design, develop, and implement PLC, HMI, and SCADA software solutions to support production automation and process optimization.
- Develop and implement plant-wide data acquisition and visualization systems that provide meaningful production metrics and operational insights for manufacturing and management teams.
- Program, configure, and troubleshoot industrial automation systems utilizing platforms including Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, PanelView, Fanuc robotics, Ignition, Wonderware, Cognex, Keyence, and other industrial control technologies.
- Provide hands-on troubleshooting and technical support for automated manufacturing equipment, including CNC machinery, robotic cells, automated assembly lines, vision inspection systems, machining centers, and plating equipment.
- Create and maintain electrical schematics, control panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) to support new equipment installations and system modifications.
- Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, production, and quality teams to identify process improvements and implement automation solutions that increase productivity, reliability, and product quality.
- Support equipment startups, commissioning activities, system upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives throughout the manufacturing facility.
- Ensure all automation systems comply with applicable electrical codes, safety standards, and company engineering practices.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
