Job Description:

We are seeking a dynamic Electrical Controls Engineer to join our team, contributing to the design and enhancement of packaging machinery and packaging system lines' electrical control systems. Your primary responsibilities include creating electrical designs and programs for new machines, managing machine contracts from order entry to commissioning, and ensuring the on-time delivery of high-quality equipment within budget. As an integral part of our team, you will play a key role in troubleshooting efforts, providing service-related support for products in the field, and actively contributing to our commitment to safety. Responsibilities

  • Design and Develop: Create electrical control system designs and programs for packaging machinery and system lines, adhering to industry and BW design standards.

  • Component Selection: Identify and select electrical components based on BW standards or customer specifications, including panel layout design.

  • Project Management: Manage the electrical controls section of machine contracts from order entry to commissioning, ensuring on-time, on-budget, and quality delivery.

  • Troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve in-house electrical and software design issues, ensuring compliance with contract terms and customer expectations.

  • Vendor Collaboration: Work with vendors to ensure quality and value for electronic components, and secure desired approval agency certifications.

  • Documentation and Maintenance: Create and maintain bills of material (BOM) for machine control designs, ensuring documentation reflects all changes.

  • Customer Support: Assist internal and external customers with troubleshooting, problem-solving, and provide controls engineering support.

  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on the latest technical developments, technologies, and components. Provide controls engineering and quoting assistance to the sales team.

  • Leadership and Mentorship: Lead, guide, coach, or mentor team members. Act as a positive role model for the team.

  • Operational Excellence: Implement and sustain Engineering and Operational Excellence best practices in alignment with the BW Way.

  • Travel: Travel domestically and internationally (up to 20% annually) for training, customer support, and business growth needs.

Basic Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related engineering field.

Experience:

  • 2+ years of PLC design experience in a manufacturing or production environment.

  • Knowledge of Allen Bradley control systems, programming experience with Microsoft Visual Studio is a plus.

  • Familiarity with National Electrical Code (NEC).

  • Mechanical aptitude for complex automated machinery and electro-mechanical integration.

Preferred Technical Skills & Abilities:

  • Robotics experience (Fanuc and/or Kuka) desired.

  • Proficient in CAD packages (ACAD, ACADE, or EPlan).

  • Knowledge of UL508A and SCCR calculations.

  • Programming skills using PLC’s and HMI’s, experience with servo’s, VFD’s, and motion control programming.

The approximate pay range for this position is $76-$100k. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to background, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as geographic location of the position.
