Position Summary
The Electrical Commissioning Technician is responsible for supporting the installation, electrical commissioning, startup, testing, troubleshooting, and operational verification of EMAG machine tools, CNC systems, automation equipment, and industrial manufacturing systems. This role ensures machines and automation systems are properly configured, electrically tested, and functioning according to engineering specifications and customer requirements.
The Electrical Commissioning Technician works closely with controls engineering, electrical engineering, manufacturing, field service, project management, and customer teams to support machine startup, electrical integration, troubleshooting, and customer acceptance activities.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions
(Included but not limited to the following)
• Perform electrical commissioning, startup, testing, troubleshooting, and operational verification activities for machine tools and automation systems
• Support machine installation and startup activities at EMAG facilities and customer locations
• Program, configure, and validate machine control components, peripheral devices, communication interfaces, and automation functions to meet customer-specific requirements and project specifications
• Coordinate directly with customers, third-party equipment suppliers, system integrators, and external vendors to define interface requirements, resolve technical issues, and ensure successful integration of all machine and auxiliary systems
• Document programming changes, interface configurations, and integration activities while ensuring compliance with project specifications, company standards, and customer expectations
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and technical documentation
• Perform electrical wiring checks, I/O verification, machine testing, and operational validation activities
• Support troubleshooting and resolution of electrical, PLC, CNC, servo, HMI, communication, and automation-related issues
• Assist with machine startup procedures, safety circuit testing, servo tuning, and operational performance verification
• Coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, controls, field service, and customer teams regarding technical issues and project requirements
• Verify proper machine functionality and compliance with engineering specifications and customer expectations
• Maintain accurate commissioning documentation, testing records, service reports, and customer sign-off documentation
• Support customer operator and maintenance training activities related to machine electrical systems and operation
• Ensure compliance with company safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, electrical standards, and customer site policies
• Maintain organized, clean, and safe work areas during commissioning and startup activities
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to startup procedures, troubleshooting processes, and operational efficiency
• Travel domestically and internationally to support customer installation and commissioning projects as required
• Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned
Required Knowledge & Technical Skills
• Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, machine tools, CNC equipment, automation systems, and manufacturing operations
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering documentation
• Basic understanding of PLC systems, CNC controls, servo drives, HMIs, sensors, and industrial communication systems preferred
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to electrical and automation systems
• Knowledge of electrical safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and industrial safety practices
• Ability to use electrical testing equipment and diagnostic tools
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications preferred
• Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
• Continuous improvement mindset and safety focus
• General knowledge and familiarity with ISO 14001 and 9001 concepts preferred
Education/Experience
• Associate’s degree or technical certification in Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, or related field preferred
• 2+ years of electrical commissioning, controls, maintenance, automation, or industrial manufacturing experience preferred
• Experience with industrial machinery, CNC systems, or automation equipment preferred
• Experience troubleshooting electrical and controls systems preferred
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as business needs require
