Job Overview:

Position Overview

A growing engineering and manufacturing organization is seeking an Electrical CAD Design Engineer to join its engineering team. This role is responsible for designing electrical control systems, wiring harnesses, and control panels used in highly engineered industrial equipment. The ideal candidate has experience creating detailed 2D and 3D electrical designs, collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams, and supporting products from concept through production.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys hands-on design work, problem-solving, and developing innovative electrical solutions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control panels, and cable/harness assemblies.
  • Create detailed 2D drawings and 3D models using electrical CAD software.
  • Develop electrical bills of materials (BOMs), wiring documentation, and manufacturing packages.
  • Ensure designs comply with UL, CE, NEC, and applicable electrical standards.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, controls, manufacturing, and production engineering teams to integrate electrical systems into new products.
  • Support prototype builds, testing, troubleshooting, and product validation activities.
  • Modify and improve existing electrical designs to enhance manufacturability, reliability, and cost.
  • Work closely with production teams to resolve design-related issues during manufacturing.
  • Participate in engineering change requests (ECRs/ECOs) and maintain engineering documentation.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives related to electrical design processes and standardization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3–7+ years of experience in electrical design within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical (required).
  • Experience using Creo (or comparable 3D CAD software) for electrical routing and design.
  • Strong understanding of electrical controls, control panel design, and industrial wiring practices.
  • Experience creating electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring documentation.
  • Familiarity with AC/DC power distribution, relays, contactors, PLC I/O, sensors, motors, and industrial automation components.
  • Knowledge of UL508A, CE, NEC, or other applicable electrical standards is preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across multiple engineering disciplines.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience designing electrical control systems for industrial equipment or machinery.
  • Knowledge of PLC hardware and industrial automation systems.
  • Experience with wiring harness design and routing.
  • Familiarity with ERP/PDM systems and engineering change processes.
  • Exposure to product testing, validation, and manufacturing support.

What We're Looking For
