Electrical Automation Engineer
Facility: Trenton Plants
General Description
Responsible for evaluating the electrical hardware and software necessary to meet the automation needs of production. Design, program, and debug many types of equipment such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Servos, Alternating Current (AC) and Direct Current (DC) drives, Instrumentation and Data Acquisition (DAQ) Systems. Must have a thorough understanding of safety system design and National and Local codes such as NEC, NFPA79, NFPA70-E, OSHA, and RIA. Should be proficient with Microsoft Office® products.
Specific Duties
• Follow all applicable environmental, health and safety rules and procedures and immediately report all dangerous situations, near-misses, and injuries.
• Participate in developing and updating risk assessments and review all applicable risk assessments annually.
• Write / interpret machine specifications for / from vendors.
• Design appropriate safety level for each application to ensure operator safety.
• Design and program PLC and HMI interfaces to assist manufacturing processes and eliminate bottlenecks.
• Design and program DC drive, VFD, and Servo driven machine tools.
• Calculate electrical power requirements for machine tools and data systems.
• Integrate and program robotics into processes and machine tools.
• Design data acquisition system to collect process data from machine tools.
• Program displays and data acquisition systems using C programming language and Visual Basic.
• Connect and program data acquisition system to SQL server.
• Write SQL reports for managers or appropriate personnel for process troubleshooting.
• Write technical manuals and machine-related documentation.
• Must have a working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Assist Maintenance / Production with higher level challenges.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology from an accredited college with a minimum of five years of experience in an industrial environment.
Or
• Graduated from an accredited technical school with an Electronic Engineering Degree in Electronic Technology or Industrial Systems with a minimum of ten years working as an Electronic Technician.
Other Qualifications:
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge of State and Local electrical codes.
• Must be able to work in a non-air-conditioned environment for a minimum of 8 hours per day.
• Excellent technical skills.
• Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
Personal Protective Equipment
• Safety Glasses conforming to: ANSI Z87.1 or higher (required to enter mfg. area).
• Safety Shoes conforming to: ASTM F2413-05 PT Class 75 Protective Toe.
• Ear Protection (Noise Reduction Rating 33 dB - as needed).
• Flame Resistant Clothing (as needed) when working around high voltage.
• Electrically Insulated Gloves for general protection (as needed).
Note: Gloves are never to be used around any rotating equipment (lathes, drums, windups, etc.).
