Job Overview:

Schedule: 1st Shift, Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM

Pay: $22–$24/hour

Location: Shakopee, MN

Position Summary

The Assembly Specialist II supports low-volume production, customer repairs, rework, and product modifications within an electronics manufacturing environment. This role provides hands-on support across multiple stages of the production process, including manual assembly, inspection, and process improvement, while ensuring compliance with customer specifications and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review documentation packages, routers, BOMs, assembly prints, and customer instructions to ensure accurate assembly processes
  • Perform manual assembly using microscopes, halo lights, soldering irons, and precision tools
  • Dispense solder paste and place small, fine-pitch, and leadless components (0201s, ICs, diodes, LEDs, connectors, switches) under a microscope
  • Hand solder and reflow assemblies using ovens or to J-STD-001 standards
  • Conduct in-process and final inspections of SMT and through-hole assemblies (alignment, polarity, accuracy, quality)
  • Assemble cables and electronic components per customer specifications
  • Assist with SMT (auto-assisted) assembly processes and support shipping/receiving as needed
  • Support X-ray inspection processes under supervision
  • Interpret BOMs, assembly drawings, routers, and work instructions
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and quality
  • Maintain compliance with IPC standards, including IPC-A-610 requirements

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • 2+ years of experience in electronics assembly, SMT, or related manufacturing environment

  • Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret BOMs, assembly prints, routers, and technical work instructions

  • Experience with hand soldering and working under a microscope

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

  • Basic math, computer, and documentation skills

  • Strong hand-eye coordination for precision assembly work

Certifications (Preferred)

  • IPC-A-610
  • J-STD-001
