Job Summary

The EHS Technician IV is an advanced EHS role responsible for providing enterprise‑level technical authority, oversight, and execution of environmental, health, and safety programs. This role applies deep expertise in EHS regulations, risk management, hazard mitigation, and compliance systems to support safe operations, regulatory adherence, and continuous improvement across complex or high‑risk environments.

Role Overview
The EHS Technician IV functions as an advanced individual contributor and organizational authority within the environmental, health, and safety function. The role emphasizes independent judgment, ownership of high‑risk or enterprise‑level EHS activities, cross‑functional influence, and leadership in EHS best practices rather than routine inspections or transactional support.
This position typically reports to an EHS Manager, Safety Manager, Environmental Manager, Operations Manager, or Plant Leader.

Key Responsibilities
Advanced EHS Program Ownership

Independently manage complex, high‑risk, or enterprise‑level EHS programs and activities
Support implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of EHS management systems
Ensure alignment with regulatory requirements, company policies, and operational objectives

Risk Assessment & Hazard Mitigation

Lead advanced hazard identification, risk assessments, and exposure evaluations
Recommend and implement effective controls to mitigate safety, health, and environmental risks
Support evaluation of new processes, equipment, or changes impacting EHS risk

Incident Investigation & Corrective Action

Lead investigations of serious incidents, near misses, or non‑routine EHS events
Perform root‑cause analysis and develop sustainable corrective and preventive actions
Track and verify effectiveness of corrective actions

Regulatory Compliance & Audit Support

Serve as a primary resource for internal, customer, or regulatory EHS audits
Ensure documentation, permits, and records are complete, accurate, and audit‑ready
Support interaction with regulatory agencies and address findings or citations

Environmental & Industrial Hygiene Support

Support compliance with environmental requirements such as waste handling, emissions, and spill prevention
Perform or coordinate industrial hygiene monitoring and exposure assessments
Recommend controls to protect employee health and the environment

EHS Training & Awareness

Support development and delivery of advanced EHS training and awareness programs
Provide subject‑matter guidance on safe‑work practices and regulatory requirements
Reinforce EHS expectations across operations and projects

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

Partner with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, and HR teams
Provide EHS input on projects, equipment changes, and process improvements
Communicate risks, requirements, and recommendations clearly to stakeholders

Process Improvement & Standardization

Identify opportunities to improve EHS processes, tools, and performance metrics
Contribute to development of EHS standards, procedures, and best practices
Support enterprise‑wide standardization of EHS approaches

Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing

Provide advanced guidance and informal mentorship to EHS Technician I–III roles
Review complex EHS assessments or investigations when escalation is required
Share best practices and technical EHS knowledge


Qualifications
Education & Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required
Associate or bachelor’s degree in safety, environmental science, industrial hygiene, or related field preferred
Typically 8–12+ years of progressive experience in EHS, safety, or environmental roles, including complex or regulated environments

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Advanced knowledge of EHS regulations, standards, and best practices
Strong risk assessment, investigation, and problem‑solving skills
Ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements with sound judgment
High attention to detail and documentation discipline
Ability to work independently and lead resolution of complex EHS issues
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency with EHS management systems, reporting, and data tools
