Job Overview:

The Opportunity:

Avantor is seeking a dynamic and experienced EHS Manager to lead all aspects of our Environment, Health, Safety, Security, and Sustainability (EHSS&S) programs within our chemical manufacturing site in Paris, KY.

This is a full-time, onsite role based in Paris, KY. Open to candidates who are willing to relocate to Paris, KY or the surrounding areas.

What we’re looking for

A confident and capable EHS leader who thrives in complex, fast-paced environments. You bring a strong technical foundation, a proactive mindset, and the ability to influence cross-functional teams.

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a related technical discipline required (e.g., Environmental Science, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene)
  • Experience: 5+ years’ of progressive EHS experience in chemical manufacturing or related industry
    • Strong working knowledge of environmental and safety regulations, including process safety management (PSM)

    • Experience with hazardous waste management and managing various environmental permits

  • Certification(s):
    • 24-hour or 40-hour HAZWOPER

    • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification

    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification nice to have
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • 3+ years of leadership experience
    • Experience leading emergency response planning and coordination
    • Familiarity with risk registers, performance metrics, and trend analysis
    • Background in sustainability initiatives and waste minimization strategies
    • Ability to manage external consultants and contractors for specialized assessment

How you will thrive and create an impact

  • Ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal EHS regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.)

  • Lead comprehensive risk assessments with a focus on identifying and mitigating process and repetitive risks

  • Conduct regular audits, inspections, and incident investigations with a focus on systemic risk reduction

  • Develop and execute long-term EHS strategies aligned with corporate sustainability and risk reduction goals

  • Monitor performance metrics and reporting systems for compliance tracking and analytics

  • Design and deliver targeted training programs on risk awareness, PSM, and JSA best practices

  • Lead site-wide safety campaigns and employee engagement efforts to foster a proactive safety culture

  • Oversee environmental compliance including air, wastewater, waste management, ground & storm water, SPCC, CERCLA and, community right to know

  • Lead emergency response planning and coordination with internal teams and external agencies

  • Partner with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, HR, and Quality departments to integrate EHS into daily operations and capital projects

Decisions responsible for:

  • Setting site-specific risk mitigation strategies and corrective actions
  • Selecting and managing external EHS consultants and contractors
  • Advising leadership on regulatory changes and operational impacts
  • Leading emergency response and post-incident evaluations

Environment:

  • This role is based at a chemical manufacturing facility operating 7 days a week across three shifts. You will be expected to maintain visibility across all shifts and ensure consistent EHS performance and engagement. The site has complex regulatory obligations and a strong commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence.
