Job Summary:  

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing ILC Dover EHS program and will implement policies to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.   The EHS Manager will champion and partner with all parts of the organization to increase the level of EHS performance EHS initiatives to reduce lagging indicators (Injury Rates) and focus on driving the organization toward leading indicators (Preventative Actions and Proactive strategies).  

Essential Responsibilities:  

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Manages others by influence. Lead EHS Consultants for project specific work.  Manage vendors providing EHS MRO items and EHS services

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Deliver continuous and sustainable improvements in EHS Performance in ILC Dover regional/global facilities
  • Provide exceptional leadership to plant management team. Identify trends in site incident, near miss events, including key performance indicators
  • Assists with implementation, rollout, and daily use of EHS Management System
  • Facilitates and champion of incident reporting system (incidents, near misses, environmental events, etc) and manages Corrective Action and Preventative Actions (CAPA) system and communicates progress for CAPA closure
  • Collaborate with plant and manufacturing engineers to assess safety processes, systems, safety organization and culture and agree on improvement plans.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills in driving accountability with management teams through effective communication
  • Inspects the facility to identify safety, health, and environmental risks.
  • Develops and implements EHS policies, inspection practices and procedures to comply with regulatory obligations and best practices.
  • Develops and owns emergency response policies and procedures
  • Prepares and schedules training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.
  • Manages hazardous waste process
  • Compiles data for annual multimedia environmental reporting (Air, Waste, Water)
  • Ensures that safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field required, Master’s degree desirable
  • Experience and familiarity with Lean concepts and driving Key Performance Indicators (KPI) 
  • 5-7+ years of related experience preferred; with 2-3 years of experience in a supervisory or managerial experience preferred
  • Possess or have the ability to receive recognized professional certifications (i.e. ASP/CSP, CIH, CHMM, ARM etc.)
  • Extensive knowledge of environmental, health and safety regulations and policies
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to build strong partnerships with cross-function teams within a matrix organization
  • Proven ability to manage projects and process focused on continuous improvement with the long-term ability to build resources and direct teams
  • Experience working in production floor environment with the ability to be an active presence among plant/facility management and support teams
  • Familiar with EHS Management Systems
  • Proficient in conducted Risk Assessments and Incident Investigations
  • Familiar with Industrial Hygiene concepts 
  • Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
  • Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time
