SUMMARY

 

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager will implement policies and practices to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.  This position provides strategic direction and oversight for occupational health, safety, and hygiene programs, and ensures compliance with environmental federal, state, and local regulations.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement safety strategies to promote organizational culture across all levels of the business.
  • Lead by example, modeling behaviors that align with and promote our core values.
  • Drive continuous improvement and operational effectiveness of EHS programs, procedures, and tools to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Manage EHS Coordinator to perform day-to-day functions and includes handling performance reviews, training, time off requests, etc.
  • Responsible for all routine Environmental reporting including, but not limited to: Annual TRI, annual Tier II, annual and biennial hazardous waste, annual and monthly air emissions, etc.
  • Provide regulatory oversight and counsel to management and other employee groups on a broad range of occupational safety issues and decisions.
  • Drive EHS compliance through audits, process/equipment review and proactive risk elimination.
  • Direct and review the analysis of accident and injury data, identifying the needs for new or modified safety programs.
  • Research occupational safety information to ensure the best available methods and equipment are adopted to minimize the hazards in the workplace.
  • Responsible for driving processes that will result in a reduction of accidents and injuries and the identification of potential hazards present in the workplace.
  • Analyze spending and monitor budgets to identify cost savings opportunities.
  • Manage Workers’ Compensation cases including costs incurred and drive efforts to maintain optimal premiums.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of existing and proposed federal and state regulations.
  • Implement, enforce, and abide by company policies and procedures outlined in the handbook.
  • Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and policies.

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to organize and manage multiple tasks and projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections.
  • Ability to collaborate well with others and build strong team synergy.
  • Ability to work well within all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Demonstrate dependability in completing tasks and maintaining work ethic.
  • Ability to routinely travel to other locations.
  • Must be willing to routinely carry mobile phone and be on-call for emergencies.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Safety, Life Sciences, Engineering, or related degree is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of required applicable Environmental programs and Environmental reporting is preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience preferred with an emphasis in health and safety management or experience in a technical environment requiring adherence to strong health and safety practices.

  • Stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
