OBJECTIVE / PURPOSE
The objective of the Product Safety & Compliance Specialist role is to ensure compliance with employee and product safety regulatory requirements, and the safe storage and shipment of hazardous materials.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS
- Prepare and conduct new hire orientation and other safety-related training
- Administer PPE programs
- Administer pulmonary function testing program, DOT driver physicals, formaldehyde questionnaires, and respiratory questionnaires
- Key point of contact for Customer facing functions to provide responses to any customer enquiry relating to Product Safety & Compliance.
- Monitor and maintain all supplier/vendor insurance certificates
- Coordinate respirator fit-testing
- Coordinate vendor activities (scheduling, processing payments, recordkeeping)
- Maintain office supplies, PPE, etc.
- Assist with maintenance of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and labeling
- Assist with permitting activities
- Assist with air monitoring and water-testing activities
- Assist with injury/accident investigations and workers compensation activities
- Assist with HAZMAT transportation compliance activities
- Other duties as assigned
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education: BS degree in Life-Science, Chemistry, or similar field preferred.
Experience: Previous experience in one or more of the following areas preferred:
- Chemical Transportation
- Employee Safety
- Product Safety
- Hazardous Waste Management
- Hazard Communication
- California Prop 65
Specialized Training/Skills:
- Knowledge of general chemistry and/or chemical hazards
- Interest in safety and/or regulatory compliance
- Familiarity with Safety Data Sheets
- Self-motivated and able to work independently
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office)
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
