Blue Chip Talent, in partnership with an automotive technology organization, is seeking a skilled Dyno Test Technician. This role is responsible for operating and maintaining dynamometer test systems, building and configuring powertrain test setups, and supporting the validation of electric drive units and propulsion systems. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in an OEM test laboratory and thrives in a fast-paced engineering environment supporting advanced EV development.
Job Duties
- Operate and maintain large dynamometer systems supporting electric drive unit and powertrain validation testing
- Install, remove, and configure drive units and other propulsion components on test beds and dyno systems
- Build and set up mechanical and electrical test rigs in collaboration with Powertrain, NVH, and Thermal Engineering teams
- Select, install, and validate instrumentation including thermocouples, RTDs, strain gauges, accelerometers, pressure sensors, flow meters, and voltage sensing equipment
- Execute durability and validation testing while monitoring system performance and ensuring accurate data collection
- Perform first-line diagnostics and troubleshooting for mechanical, electrical, software, and test system issues
- Support test equipment upgrades, system modifications, and routine maintenance activities
- Generate and maintain documentation for test setups, procedures, findings, and equipment improvements
- Follow laboratory safety standards and contribute to Environmental Health & Safety initiatives and risk assessments
Skills & Experience
Required
- 5+ years of hands-on technician experience supporting large dynamometer systems or automotive test cells
- Experience working in an OEM automotive environment developing or validating production vehicles or propulsion systems
- 2+ years supporting electrified vehicles, electric drive units, or high-voltage propulsion systems
- Hands-on experience removing, installing, and configuring drive units on test beds and operating dynamometer control systems
- Experience performing dynamometer durability testing on electric motors, gearboxes, inverters, battery systems, or complete propulsion systems
- Strong instrumentation experience including thermocouples, RTDs, strain gauges, accelerometers, pressure transducers, hygrometers, and flow meters
- Experience setting up mechanical and electrical test fixtures, tooling, and validation equipment
- Knowledge of electric motors, gearboxes, inverters, propulsion systems, and thermal management systems
- Strong diagnostic experience using automotive scan tools and electrical/mechanical test equipment
- Understanding of high-voltage EV safety practices
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Desired
- Experience supporting Powertrain Validation, NVH, or Thermal Engineering teams
- Experience troubleshooting prototype electric vehicles or prototype propulsion systems
- Knowledge of fixture design, test error-proofing, and laboratory process development
- Experience performing laboratory equipment upgrades and process improvements
- Familiarity with coolant, refrigerant, and thermal management systems
- Experience documenting test procedures and validation results within engineering environments
