Position Summary

 

The Production Supervisor is responsible for overall performance of employees for assigned shift by providing effective direction, follow-up, training, and supervision.  Responsible for managing production operations consistent with company goals of satisfying customer requirements within government regulations.   Responsible for meeting goals in the areas of safety, quality, service, productivity/cost, and morale.

Essential Job Functions

 

  • Implements overall shift deliverables including employee performance and production goals (quality, cost, safety, efficiency, sanitation, productivity, morale).  
  • Resolves production issues and employee issues as they arise.  
  • Assures appropriate staffing levels for efficient operations through hiring, training, and scheduling of employees.  
  • Adheres to and administers fairly and consistently all policies.  
  • Supervises and performs training for employees on proper GMP’s, Lock-out/tag-out, HACCP, HAZCOM, other safety training, preventing harassment and orientation.
  • Works with other departments to coordinate production activities and accomplish plant goals.
  • Communicates daily with other shift supervisors to ensure smooth hand-off between shifts and/or efficient use of resources.
  • Serves as the first point of contact and a reliable resource for all employee and team needs.  This includes timely and meaningful follow-up to all questions, concerns & ideas, and being very visible and approachable to employees. 
  • Performs area-specific process improvement activities including identification of opportunities, project planning and execution.
  • Conducts performance management and individual skill development of all employees, including performance reviews and disciplinary actions.
  • Delivers attendance and other counseling and when needed seek assistance from the Production Manager, Production Superintendent and/or Human Resources Manager for complex, or terminable offenses.
  • Ensures effective training, assessment, and feedback for new employees during the probation/orientation period, for employees transferring between areas or other training opportunities.
  • Assesses, identifies, and addresses opportunities to increase the team’s effectiveness including skill training, goal setting, facilitating effective team meetings, to include rewarding and recognizing the team’s progress.
  • Provides leadership by demonstrating a positive, respectful, resilient and results oriented approach.
  • Records and ensures accuracy of daily production results. 
  • Works with employees on effectively minimizing downtime and yield loss.
  • Performs physical inventory tasks as needed.
  • Manages break schedule and ensure process to provide relief as needed along with approving time off requests.
  • Reports production incidents, food, and other safety incidents. 
  • Reviews and approves employee hours worked/punch detail in Enhanced Time by ADP.
  • Special Projects and other duties as assigned.

 

 

Education/Training 

Required: 

  • HS diploma or equivalent

Preferred:  

  • BA/BS in Food Science, Engineering, Business and/or related program

 

Experience/Knowledge/Abilities

Required:

  • 2-4 years of food production experience
  • Demonstrated excellent communication, teamwork, and partnership skills.
  • Ability to effectively resolve conflicts and manage challenging situations.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office products
  • Solid team leadership experience and demonstrated effectiveness in a leadership role. 
  • Very strong planning, organizing, prioritization, and multitasking skills.
  • Solid judgment, decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Proactive and results focused.
  • Experience developing and/or conducting production, safety, or quality training.
  • Experience providing performance feedback and working with employees to improve performance.

Preferred:

  • 5 to 7 years food production experience to include 1 year in a supervisory or lead capacity.
  • Ability to speak and understand Spanish.
