Job Overview:

This position ensures the efficient operation of the store by accurately and safely receiving, processing, and storing incoming products.   Prepares, packs, and scans products for pick-up and delivery. This position also balances in-store inventory by stocking product.


Warehouse Duties

  1. Quickly and accurately receives, processes and stores incoming product shipments.  
  2. Ensures shipments are inspected and damages or shortages are noted on trucking company delivery document. Initiates freight claim procedure when necessary.
  3. Checks incoming delivery contents against packing list to verify accurate and full delivery.
  4. Prepares receiving reports and notes any shortages, damages or overages.  Promptly reports any discrepancies to supervisors.  
  5. Verifies vendor part number and Johnstone stock number for all incoming products/returns.   Determines proper bin number and/or location of incoming products.  Stores incoming products in proper location according to bin number or product sequence.
  6. Selects products from inventory to fill customer orders. 
  7. Prepares, packs, and scans (as appropriate), and stages products for inter-store transfer and customer pick-up and delivery in accordance with established standards (e.g. hazardous materials).  Ensures that packaging is sufficient to avoid damage.
  8. Processes documentation necessary to ship inter-store transfers and customer orders, including bills of lading, packing lists, small parcel manifests and other necessary documents.
  9. Loads customer/delivery vehicles and assists customers with loading their orders.
  10. Inspect customer returns. Ensures returns are in sellable condition per company policy.  
  11. Verifies that warranty paperwork has been properly attached. Facilitates warranty pick-up process.
  12. Performs periodic cycle counting on assigned items in order to keep accurate records of inventory.   Verifies actual counts of stock against computerized records.  Investigates and reports discrepancies.
  13. Ensures safety by maintaining cleanliness of warehouse.  Ensures that aisles are free of potential hazards.   Reports unsafe conditions to management.
  14. Operates hand trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts, order pickers, and other equipment safely and in accordance with organizational procedures.  Monitors equipment and promptly reports any safety or maintenance concerns to supervisors.  
  15. Always wears protective equipment according to company policies and procedures.  Accesses Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) as needed and when appropriate.
  16. Maintains required hazardous materials, forklift, and other internal and external certifications. 

Alternative Duties

  1. May drive delivery truck or van to transport items to other stores or customer locations with approval.  Maintains drivers license and clean driving record. Follows delivery truck sheet policy and performs vehicle safety checks before driving.
  2. May assist with customer service and sales, including answering phones, greeting customers, and servicing the sales counter.
  3. May assist in annual physical count of full warehouse inventory.
  4. May assist with special duties and assignments as needed to support the efficient functioning of the store.

Education and Experience:  

Required:  

  • High School Diploma / GED required OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Clean driving record

Preferred:  

  • 6 months experience in warehouse operations in a wholesale environment
  • Experience driving a forklift 
  • Experience with computer or barcode driven inventory management systems

Job-Specific Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Warehouse Operations

  • Basic computer skills, including knowledge and skill in the use of inventory management systems and office software (e.g. Email programs, Internet browsers) 
  • Basic math skills sufficient to manage inventory, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Ability to use computer systems and manual procedures for organizing and identifying products and communicating with coworkers.   
  • Adequate physical strength and stamina to repeatedly lift, carry, move, and set down up to 75 pounds.
  • Skill in operation of heavy equipment, including delivery vehicles, forklift, pallet jack, and order picker.
  • Strict attention to detail.
  • Preferred: Has obtained a Chauffer’s license.

Physical Demands:   While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to lift, carry, and load up to 75 pounds repeatedly throughout the day; climb and balance on ladders and equipment; walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; and reach, push, pull and manipulate.  The employee is also frequently required to lift in excess of 100 pounds with mechanical assistance or the assistance of coworkers.   

 

Work Environment:  Most work is performed in a warehouse environment without air conditioning, which may include hot and cold temperatures, dust, dirt, and noise.
