Atlas Roofing Corporation is seeking a Director of Procurement – Shingles and Underlayments division.  Position should domicile in the Southeastern US and within driving distance to an Atlas location.


Basic Job Function:

The Director must have the ability to develop strategies for securing stable supply of critical materials including negotiating long term deals with strategic partners as well as capitalizing on short term tactical needs as opportunities arise. The person must have the capability of understanding technical specialized materials and their physical properties, specifically asphalt, glass mat, roofing granules, calcium carbonate filler, roofing flux, backing materials like sand and talc, as well as other commodities and evaluate market dynamics to navigate a challenging supply chain. The person will also need to understand modes of transportation of the strategic raw materials and the impact on cost and supply chain. They will have flexibility in the approach to manage suppliers and find points of leverage, including leading supply chain technical staff for dual sourcing and risk mitigation efforts. They will need to balance multiple priorities, including the balance between activities required to meet the short-term business operational and financial objectives, as well as longer term organizational/technical development needs. The person will play a key role in strategic planning the achievement of the Company profit goals by communicating and collaborating with operations, sales, technical and financial stakeholders.


The position oversees a category spend of approximately $500 million annually.


Position should domicile in the Southeastern US and work out of an Atlas SUL facility or corporate office.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Supply Chain or Business degree. Advanced degree highly desirable
  • Contract creation & contract management
  • Demonstrated skills in complex negotiations
  • CPM or CPIM certification, preferred
  • A minimum of ten (10) progressive years of experience in purchasing & sourcing with extensive experience in raw materials or manufacturing industry, preferably in a strategic setting in a mid to large size organization within the building or construction industry.
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal, written, presentation.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite, Google Drive and ERP (PeopleSoft, SAP, or equivalent) are essential.
  • Experience with Purchasing Software, General Ledger Software
  • Accounts Payable Knowledge
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail oriented, ability to multi-task and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Will require up to 25% of travel to multiple plants/locations.



  • Negotiate and execute of agreements including contracting with Suppliers on pricing and terms and conditions.
  • Works closely with the Technical Staff to recommend and establish alternative sourcing options to secure raw materials at a competitive cost and quality.
  • Work closely with the Web Technologies Supply Chain Director for material shared by the Divisions (Glass Mat & Filler) to verify strategic alignment with vendors.
  • Develops processes to manage the enforcement of contractual obligations with suppliers within allocated commodities.
  • Manages contractual commitments and supplier assessments; establishes, tracks, maintains, and oversees performance metrics for all sourcing agreements ensuring proper KPI levels in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Creates, maintains master service agreement after negotiating cost, terms and conditions with suppliers and communicates these clearly within the organization.
  • Evaluates and renews contracts by identifying and prioritizing opportunities for reduction of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
  • Functions in managing relationships with suppliers and internal customers to meet Company objectives and supply chain needs.
  • Conducts product market assessment and monitors key market indicators to predict movement of purchased costs and communicate expected impact and sourcing risk.
  • Fosters and builds strategic supplier relationships to enable a competitive advantage for the enterprise.
  • Responsible for procurement spend, cost savings, inventory management, risk management, supplier performance management, transit times, freight costs, and shipping metrics.
  • Develops strong relationships with internal business and operations stakeholders
  • Partner with key cross-functional teams to align on long-term strategies that deliver business growth through innovation and Delivered Profit Margin optimization
  • Mange, lead and recommend changes for procurement operations programs and workflows.
  • Communicates with vendors (including vendor plant visits) and keeps informed of new products and specifications.
  • Participates in the investigation and resolves quality complaints with each vendor as needed.
  • Submits and adheres to an annual budget.
  • Reviews sources of supply, prices, and inventory levels on a regular basis.
  • Confers with Operations, Sales, and R&D to identify needs and recommend materials, specifications, or modifications.
  • Reviews vendor price lists, periodicals, and newsletters ensuring knowledge of trends, price increases and product shortages.
  • Partners with the Technical Staff to assist in efforts to identify, evaluate, and potentially source new and improved strategic raw materials to improve performance and/or reduce cost.
  • Attends all scheduled meetings and brings suggestions for improvement.
  • On a quarterly basis, schedules time to visit an Atlas plant to better understand the process and the specific procurement needs of each plant.
  • Willing and timely execution of other duties as delegated by leadership.
