Job Description

The Director of Engineering - ECM will be responsible for engineering and technology of best-in-class electrical construction solutions for the world’s most challenging industrial and hazardous applications.  This key senior leadership position will lead the conceptualization, design, development, and production introduction of electrical construction products including conduit & cable fittings, plugs & receptacles, electrical enclosures, panelboards, motor starters and control stations and for industrial, hazardous, and extreme environment applications. 

This position directs a global engineering team providing technical direction & program level management for all phases of New Product Development. The ideal candidate will be an experienced innovator fully capable of pushing the limits of electrical product solutions and technology within Appleton’s products and markets. The position reports directly to the Global Engineering Director within the Appleton business unit.

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

• Leading development programs for ECM products and applying best in class project management practices, innovation methods, and lean NPD processes
• Establishing product design direction, conduct design reviews, define qualification plans
• Ensuring product compliance with applicable safety/certification standards and coordinate product approval with the design validation and certification teams
• Defining product and technology roadmaps to satisfy customer needs and business requirements in collaboration with Marketing, Procurement, Planning, and Emerson Business Partners / Leaders 
• Formulating technical recommendations based on end user research and industry trends
• Cultivating creative thinking, innovation and growth among associates
• Monitoring performance, providing feedback & conducting performance reviews to build effective teams
• Meeting engineering financial objectives by forecasting engineering requirements; preparing budgets; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions
• Provide regular reports for executive leadership
• Shared responsibilities for East Dundee lab operations

For This Role, You Will Need

• Bachelor of Science, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
• Working knowledge in the areas of mechanical design and electrical systems
• Knowledge in the National Electrical Code and Canadian Electrical Code
• 8+ years of demonstrated new product design and, project management 
• 3+ years of leadership experience
• Demonstrated drive for innovation, technology leadership and successful product introductions
• Exceptional leadership acumen of multidisciplinary global technical teams
• Experience developing products to safety agency regulations
• Excellent communication skills
• Legal authorization to work in the US - visa sponsorship will not be provided

Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:

• Master of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or New Product Development 
• Experience with electronic design and agency certifications for hazardous locations
• Experience working in with professionals globally

The salary range for this role is $160,000 - $180,000, commensurate with the skills, talent, capabilities, and experience each candidate brings to the role.
