Location: Chicago, Idaho or Remote

Job Summary

The Director, Dairy Market Intelligence is a key team member of the Glanbia Nutritionals team, providing research and analytical support across many functions of the business including Milk Procurement, Finance, Sales and Product Strategy.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Analysis of current and projected dairy market conditions and the identification of key trends and opportunities for the business. This includes:

  • The monitoring of milk supply trends and the analysis of milk pricing.
  • The analysis of current and projected whey, cheese and butter markets.
  • Liaising and networking with external and internal parties to gather all relevant market information.
  • The communication of these trends to the appropriate personnel and departments in the business, and externally where appropriate, supporting the preparation of the 3-5 year Dairy Strategy.
  • Maintenance of competitor share information and industry capacity.

Monthly Balancing of Whey Supply and Demand

  • In conjunction with the Director of Risk Management and Dairy Planning, review monthly changes in sales forecasts and make recommendations to Sales Leadership on cuts to customer forecasts or requirements to place volume. Make recommendations on changes to allocations between regions. Feed adjusted forecast back to demand planning.
  • Liaise with supply chain and production planning in relation to changes to monthly forecast.

Sales Support

  • Support of sales team in engagements with key customers for placement of dairy volumes.
  • Training of new sales managers on dairy markets.
  • Regular engagement with brokers and dairy traders to understand markets. Periodically place volume to traders.

Product Management of WPC34 and Lactose product streams

  • Sales of WPC34 product stream.
  • Management of Lactose product stream in conjunction with PSM for ASPAC and key account managers.


Additional Functions

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • To be effective, a strong knowledge base in dairy markets and policies, as evidenced by at least an undergraduate degree in agricultural economics with a minimum of ten years of industry experience. Alternatively, a degree in accounting, finance or general economics with suitable industry experience specific to dairy is acceptable.
  • The successful candidate must have a sound commercial knowledge and be effective at communicating and interacting with a wide constituency, from plant personnel through the Company’s Executive.

  • The successful candidate must be able to translate complex analysis into key conclusions and communicate the salient business points effectively with people at all levels.
  • A strong work ethic, decisiveness, a high degree of creativity and resourcefulness are equally important.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Organization skills and the ability to prioritize in the context of a mix of ongoing responsibilities and special projects are important.
  • Strong analytical, facilitation, writing skills, and a keen attention to detail are necessary.

Typical Environmental Conditions

  • May be exposed to moderate noise levels (i.e. office equipment, light traffic).

Travel Requirements

    • Moderate overnight travel (up to 20%) by land and/or air.
