POSITION SUMMARY

Director of Asset Management will build and manage a team of Asset Managers that operate multiple BESS sites across all market regions and is responsible for the revenue optimization of operating assets while overseeing the commercial, financial and operational aspects of the assets. Additional responsibilities include training of Asset Managers, assisting with project hand-off/integration and developing and implementing asset management strategies and KPIs for each BESS project.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Formulate short and long-term strategic operating plans for each ISO, which include implementing/managing daily market strategies, anticipating structural market changes and planning for multiple contingencies
  • Evaluate all operational, regulatory, and financial constraints for each battery while complying with company defined risk parameters and ISO/RTO regulatory rules
  • Identify revenue enhancement opportunities, address performance related BESS root causes, and propose innovative solutions to optimize risk weighted market return across all assets
  • Actively manage/monitor key operational variables such as performance, availability, lost opportunity cost and market-specific technical data to spot subtle yet meaningful trends and quickly react to operational and market disruptions
  • Interface with VESI internal teams such as Projects, Project Finance / Accounting, Engineering and O&M to determine any of the following: major repairs, contingency plans, capital investments, project returns, changes to DAM/RTM strategies
  • Develop procedures to effectively communicate with cross-functional teams to ensure dispatch strategies are properly executed
  • In coordination with the Data Analytics, Engineering, NOC and O&M develop KPIs to monitor and challenge the operational performance
  • Manage relationships with various project entities, oversee external contractors and prepare RFPs & contracts
  • Utilizes resources from within VESI and ORMAT when necessary to handle specific accounting, data analytics or engineering assignments
  • Track and report asset performance with respect to variance in forecasted revenues, financial hedge exposure and various 3rd party contractual obligations
  • Initiate and/or support major projects, divestitures, and/or capital investment and revenue enhancement proposals
  • Review financial metrics and market studies to better gauge project economics
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders on approving both internally developed and externally contracted pricing models and determining a suite of site-specific product hedging strategies

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Company Administration, Compliance, & Reporting:

  • Working with teams including attorneys, engineers, and 3rd Party financing to
    • Negotiate new contracts or amendments to existing contracts for fuel supply, major maintenance of a power generation facility, power sales, etc.
    • Support the restructuring or refinancing of new or amended loan agreements
    • Analyze capital investments to enhance or prolong a project’s performance
    • Prepare monthly and quarterly lender reports per requirements of financing agreements
  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of contract compliance tracking systems by reviewing and summarizing deliverables of contracts and other project documents

Project Integration:

  • Work closely with project teams and plant operations staff to ensure effective implementation of the operating budgets, management of emergent technical issues, and understanding by plant staff of the commercial ramifications of plant operations
  • Support the development of information sharing, including populating historical records and archiving of relevant documents
  • Interface with business development, project finance, and construction management groups to ensure the smooth transition of projects into commercial operation
  • Remain abreast of regulatory issues within region(s) and direct the Regulatory team on initiatives

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Bachelors degree in related engineering, applied mathematics or business operations subject matter
  • 7-10 years of related technical or management experience in similar field such as finance, electric, communication, gas utilities or independent power producer
  • Thorough knowledge of power plant and inverter-based system operations and related industry standard protocols
  • Working knowledge of power electronics within a utility (or similar) operating environment
  • Working knowledge of control room environments, preferably with related experience
  • Ability to understand engineering design drawings, vendor equipment drawings and technical information
  • Computer literate in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and various other programs
  • Strong management skills in building consensus and negotiating internally and externally
  • Demonstrated contract management experience
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The ability to work at a computer and computer monitor for long periods of time and stay alert
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license
  • Must be able to travel overnight approximately 25% of the time out of the office by air, train or auto
  • Must be able to operate a vehicle in a safe manner, enter and exit vehicle without assistance, remain alert while driving for continuous period of time and read and understand maps
