Job Overview:

Blue Chip Talent, in partnership with a defense and mobility organization, is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic / Prototype Assembly Technician. This role is responsible for assembling and modifying prototype military vehicle systems, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical components, and supporting fabrication and repair activities within a fast-paced engineering environment. The ideal candidate brings hands-on heavy vehicle experience, strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to support prototype builds from concept through testing.

Job Duties

  • Assemble and modify prototype military vehicle systems and subassemblies
  • Perform diesel engine, drivetrain, chassis, and powerpack installation and repair
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems including fuse boxes, wiring, PCB components, and soldered connections
  • Interpret torque specifications and properly apply torque sequences during assembly operations
  • Support fabrication activities including drilling, cutting, fastening, and component fitment
  • Repair damaged or broken fasteners and threaded assemblies using proper extraction methods
  • Operate cranes, forklifts, and shop equipment to support vehicle assembly and movement
  • Provide feedback on assembly processes, tooling improvements, and prototype design enhancements
  • Maintain a safe and organized prototype shop environment while following all safety procedures

Skills & Experience

Required

  • 5+ years of diesel mechanic, heavy equipment, or prototype vehicle assembly experience
  • Experience assembling and repairing heavy vehicle systems including engines, drivetrains, suspension, and power systems
  • Hands-on electrical troubleshooting experience with wiring, fuse panels, relays, PCB components, and soldering
  • Understanding of torque specifications, torque sequencing, and mechanical fastener installation practices
  • Experience using fabrication tools and performing mechanical modifications
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, schematics, and assembly instructions
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience operating forklifts, overhead cranes, or similar heavy equipment

Desired

  • Military vehicle assembly or modification experience
  • ASE Mechanic Certification or similar diesel/heavy equipment certification
  • CDL certification
  • Welding experience with steel and aluminum
  • Welding certification preferred
  • Experience with spray painting and material surface preparation
  • Experience operating tracked or tactical military vehicles
  • Machine shop equipment experience
