Position Summary

The Diesel / Fleet Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing a fleet of ready-mix trucks and heavy equipment supporting multiple concrete operations throughout the greater Atlanta area. This hands-on position performs preventative maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and major mechanical repairs to maximize equipment uptime and reliability. The ideal candidate has strong diesel and hydraulic troubleshooting skills, enjoys solving mechanical problems, and takes pride in keeping equipment operating safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

-Perform preventative maintenance on ready-mix trucks and heavy equipment.

-Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, brakes, suspension, and pneumatic systems.

-Troubleshoot mechanical failures and determine effective repair solutions.

-Complete engine, drivetrain, brake, suspension, and component replacements.

-Perform welding and light fabrication repairs as needed.

-Conduct inspections to ensure DOT compliance and equipment safety.

-Complete work orders and maintenance documentation accurately.

-Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.

-Coordinate with dispatch and operations to minimize equipment downtime.

-Respond to emergency equipment repairs when necessary.

-Follow all company safety policies and OSHA guidelines.

Required Qualifications

-High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in diesel, heavy equipment, or automotive repair preferred.

-3+ years of experience maintaining and repairing heavy equipment, construction equipment, commercial trucks, or fleet vehicles.

-Strong mechanical aptitude with experience diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical systems.

-Proficient with hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, hydraulic presses, and diagnostic software.

-Valid Georgia driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

-Willingness to work outdoors and safely perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 100 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

-ASE, CAT, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, or other heavy equipment/diesel certifications.

-Experience repairing ready-mix trucks, concrete mixers, loaders, excavators, bulldozers, forklifts, trailers, or other heavy construction equipment.

-Welding and fabrication experience (MIG, Stick, or TIG).

-Familiarity with DOT inspections and commercial vehicle maintenance requirements.

-Experience working in the ready-mix concrete, aggregate, construction, or heavy industrial industries.
