Diesel Mechanic - Roll-Off & Trash Trucks

Position Summary

The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing roll-off trucks, garbage trucks, and other heavy-duty diesel vehicles. This position helps keep equipment operating safely, reliably, and efficiently while reducing downtime.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance on diesel trucks and equipment.
• Diagnose and repair engine, transmission, brake, steering, suspension, and electrical system issues.
• Inspect, repair, and maintain hydraulic systems, including hoists, compactors, and lifting equipment.
• Complete vehicle safety inspections and identify needed repairs.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems.
• Replace worn or damaged parts such as brakes, hoses, belts, pumps, and hydraulic components.
• Perform DOT inspections and ensure vehicles meet safety requirements.
• Maintain accurate repair and maintenance records.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns and emergency repairs when needed.
• Keep the shop and work area clean and safe.
• Work with drivers and management to address vehicle concerns and improve equipment performance.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience working on diesel trucks, roll-off trucks, trash trucks, or similar heavy equipment.
• Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, brakes, and electrical systems.
• Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical problems.
• Valid driver's license required.

Preferred Qualifications

• ASE certifications.
• Experience with refuse truck equipment and hydraulic systems.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tight spaces.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
