Job Summary:
The Die Cast Process Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining die casting processes to achieve high levels of quality, consistency, and productivity. This role involves hands-on support of production, troubleshooting process-related issues, and implementing technical solutions that align with plant performance goals. The engineer works closely with tooling, maintenance, quality, and production teams to drive process stability and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and document robust die casting processes, including shot profiles, spray patterns, and process parameters.
- Troubleshoot and resolve casting defects by analyzing process data and conducting root cause investigations.
- Monitor and refine process settings to improve casting quality, reduce scrap, and optimize cycle times.
- Support new tooling and process trials, collaborating with tooling and program management teams.
- Create and maintain standard work instructions and process documentation for die cast operations.
- Participate in APQP activities and support PPAP submissions for new and transferred jobs.
- Work with automation and maintenance teams to integrate process improvements into die cast cells.
- Track and report key process indicators such as downtime, OEE, scrap, and tool performance.
- Utilize data from the ERP system and production records to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
- Train production staff and setup personnel on process best practices and technical standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2+ years of experience in a high-pressure die casting environment.
- Strong understanding of die cast process fundamentals, thermal management, and material flow.
- Experience with process monitoring tools and data analysis for troubleshooting and optimization.
- Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, and related quality systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; exposure to ERP systems and production data tools is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work cross-functionally.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Working Conditions:
- Work is split between the shop floor and an office environment.
- Must be able to support off-shift operations as needed for troubleshooting and process trials.
- Required to wear appropriate PPE and follow all safety procedures in manufacturing areas.
