DICK'S Sporting Goods – Designer | Retail Graphics & Environments

Summary

RWOB is seeking a Designer to support the DICK'S Sporting Goods account, with the majority of the role focused on 2D retail graphics, production-ready artwork, and programmatic signage. The designer will execute work across DICK'S Sporting Goods, House of Sport, and Golf Galaxy store environments.

This is a hands-on, production-first role for an early-to-mid-career designer with strong 2D design fundamentals, excellent attention to detail, and the desire to grow. The designer will begin by working within established creative direction, templates, and production systems. With coaching and demonstrated performance, the role will expand into conceptual assignments and environmental design work.

Role Details

  • Team alignment: Member of the 2D Design Team dedicated to the DICK'S Sporting Goods account, with ongoing partnership from RWOB creative leadership and production resources.
  • Employment: Full-time position with Innomark/RWOB dedicated to the DICK'S Sporting Goods account.
  • Work model: Hybrid schedule - three days in the office and two days remote, with one additional flexible day per month based on client and team needs.
  • Anticipated compensation: $70,000-$75,000 annually, commensurate with experience and portfolio strength.
  • Target start: Mid-August 2026.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute 2D retail graphics and signage based on established creative direction, from layout development through production-ready artwork, for ongoing programs across DICK'S Sporting Goods, House of Sport, and Golf Galaxy.
  • Apply brand standards, templates, and approved design systems consistently across programmatic signage and multiple store formats.
  • Build layouts primarily in Adobe InDesign, with image preparation, compositing, and retouching in Photoshop and vector support in Illustrator as needed.
  • Develop environmental design skills over time by learning SketchUp, signage placement, and how 2D graphics are applied within a store environment.
  • As skills develop, support Level 1 concept work under the guidance of creative leadership, including simple environmental concepts, visual exploration, and presentation development.
  • Prepare client-ready presentations, mockups, proofs, and production files; incorporate feedback accurately and efficiently.
  • Collaborate within the 2D Design Team and with project managers, production artists, engineers, account partners, and vendors to maintain design intent and production quality.
  • Follow established templates, specifications, file organization, naming, version control, and preflight standards across all assignments.
  • Manage multiple assignments and deadlines while communicating status, risks, questions, and next steps proactively.
  • Perform detailed quality-control reviews for copy, dimensions, color, brand consistency, production feasibility, and final deliverables.

Core Competencies

  • Strong 2D design fundamentals including typography, layout, visual hierarchy, branding, and information design.
  • High proficiency in Adobe InDesign for approximately 90% of day-to-day layout and production work, with working proficiency in Photoshop and related Adobe tools for the remaining needs.
  • Interest and demonstrated aptitude for learning SketchUp and environmental design workflows; prior SketchUp experience is helpful but not required.
  • Working knowledge of production-ready file preparation; exposure to retail graphics, signage, or environmental applications is preferred.
  • Curiosity and coachability—asks clear questions, applies feedback, and builds an understanding of how production decisions affect the in-store experience.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work accurately within repeatable systems and fast timelines.
  • Clear communication and collaboration within the 2D Design Team and across production and technical partners.
  • Adaptability and accountability in a fast-moving environment with evolving priorities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communication, environmental design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 2-4 years of professional design experience in retail, agency, in-house, or production-focused environments.
  • A portfolio demonstrating strong 2D design fundamentals, layout craft, and production execution; retail signage or environmental work is a plus, not a requirement.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing accurate final artwork while meeting quality and deadline expectations.
  • Experience working within brand standards, receiving direction and feedback, and making revisions accurately and constructively.
  • Experience with SketchUp, 3D visualization, retail environments, or store planning is preferred but not required; interest and ability to learn are essential.

Growth Opportunity

This role is intentionally production-first. Initial success is measured by accuracy, speed, reliability, file quality, and the ability to work effectively within established systems. As the designer builds knowledge of the brands, store formats, and environmental workflows, they will be coached into greater design ownership and selected Level 1 conceptual projects. The long-term goal is to develop a dependable production designer into a conceptual designer who can support environmental design for DICK'S Sporting Goods, House of Sport, and Golf Galaxy.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, client-facing studio environment with shifting priorities and deadline-driven assignments.
  • Ability to maintain the agreed hybrid schedule and be present for key team reviews, client collaboration, store visits, and production needs.
  • Occasional local travel may be required between DSG, RWOB, vendor, and retail locations.
  • Physical activity may include walking, sitting, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs as needed.

Core Values

Adaptable | Detail-Oriented | Curious & Growth-Minded | Collaborative & Communicative | Accountable | Delivers Results

Why This Role Exists
