DESIGN ENGINEER FULL JOB DESCRIPTION
PURPOSE:
This position is responsible for the designing of products that meet the criteria set forth, and supporting products after production introduction.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Manage broad and complex tasks/projects in accordance with the Rite-Hite 5-phase design process.
Provide professional leadership to members of the project team.
Develop project budgets, manage budgets and reports regularly.
Aggressively pursue participation, feedback and concurrences from all sources which have influence on the project.
Take a leadership role in the development of product definitions, product concepts and prototypes.
Conceptualize designs as relating to product definitions.
Design parts/products for prototyping/production.
Perform mathematical verification and modeling of designs.
Analyze components or systems for design life and performance.
Write test plans and direct tests to verify analysis.
Design test stands.
Develop new product cost estimates with cost accounting.
Coordinate with suppliers.
Write purchase specifications.
Review drawings for correctness.
Design tooling and fixtures.
Prepare and deliver presentations to project teams and management as required.
Support production, customer service, applications, special order engineering and aftermarket engineering.
Perform failure analysis.
Create or direct engineering change notices and sign for technical acceptance.
Follow all established procedures, standards and policies.
Maintain a professional working atmosphere.
Responsible for executing and supporting the quality system and procedures in the effort for continuous improvement.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Manage broad and complex tasks/projects.
Design and analyze components or systems for design life and performance, failure analysis.
Write test plans and direct testing.
Create or direct ECN's.
Design tooling and fixtures.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
As assigned per project.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four year college or university in mechanical or electrical engineering; with at least two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience as demonstrated by PE certification.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory. Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
